🏢 Project: The Exchange 📌 Location: Sydney, Australia 📐 Architect: Kengo Kuma & Associates The project is a multi-offer building that is comprised of public uses; childcare, library and commercial uses; fresh food market and restaurant. It was planned as a part of the large urban development in the active area of Darling Harbor, Sydney. The site within the development is like a small pocket among high rise buildings in rigid geometry with hard surfaces. The urban design strategy for The Darling Exchange is to create an architectural form in harmony with the square to become a part of the landscape, in human scale with natural material to offer tangible and comfortable building to the surrounding. It is surrounded by residential blocks, retails at lower podium and active flow of people along the boulevard. Being at the focal point of activities, non-directional architectural form was selected. Circular form achieves the building to be accessible and recognizable form multiple directions. Rate this wall from 1-10?! A mile long parametric wall, designed by London based architecture studio Softroom, links 6 lounges for Turkish Airlines inside Istanbul Airport. A ribbon-like ‘Flow Wall’ that controlled by grasshopper scripting, offers a dynamic and fluid experience to the passengers with varying curves and light stips. The design is finalized through an algorithm based process, that grants divergent outcomes to test within a range of parameters. Architects describe the undulating wall as an "intuitive route that transcends barriers of language and culture" as it runs throughout 19,000 square metres of lounge space. The design is visible upon entrance to the airport and it guides the visitors from the counters through the lounges and to the retail spaces.
