Day 14: Favorite Season 7 Episode.
Chosen: Fun fact, The First originally appeared in season 3 of Buffy The Vampire Slayer during the 10th episode called "Amends." The First is an interesting villain in the series as it can't take corporeal form but can the form of anyone whose ever died.
With it being the first evil that means this is a true demon like what the mayor became when he ascended, but it having having no real corporeal form means there is no real pay off fight, just a war between the Slayers & the First's legion of darkness. I think the finale is arguably one of the best episodes of the series for a few different reasons like the passing of the torch moment with Faith where Buffy finally gives up control and puts her trust in Faith. Completing her whole redemption arc that's been going on throughout the two shows, Angel & BTVS.
To Buffy finally telling Spike that she loves him before he sacrificed himself. I think this episode is really about closure in a lot of ways & wrapped a lot of things up nicely. Something most finales just fail to do nowadays.
Dirty Girls: I said when I was talking about season 5 that Buffy has never faced an enemy like Glory before and didn't again until season 7. Well, here we are, season 7.
We actually have a somewhat false sense of security going into this episode. As in the 11th episode called "Showtime" we finally see Buffy kill a ubervamp called the Turok-Han. Those vampires aren't like the ones on earth but true vampires from hell. The Turok-Han was so far their biggest challenge.
While The Bringers could be looked at as pawns, these things were like the Knights, Rooks, and Bishops. Caleb, however, could be looked at like the Queen making The First the King and oh boy, when the Scooby Gang meets Caleb does everything immediately go south.
Buffy gets rag dolled.
Faith, who just returned in this very episode, after getting back from besting Angelus & battling The Beast in Angel's series, gets easily manhandled.
The potentials get slaughtered.
Xander gets skullfucked by a priest.
Like the suddenness of all this I remember left me dumbfounded when watching it on TV and had me begging for the next episode only to have to wait for more. The only person who had ever done anything like this previously was Glory & now we had Caleb, who keep in mind isn't even the big bad of this season doing this to everyone.
