And I can’t say I really am? I’ve never looked into it honestly because as much as I love mythology, I’m not a big classics fan and reading ancient stuff usually puts me off. (i’m going to disappoint so many followers with that comment omfg)

14. If you can live anywhere in the world where would it be? Why?

I like where I live now in MD. But I do plan on moving to Yokohama, Japan for a few years after college. Got plenty of friends there and I’ve been studying Japanese culture and the language for 9 years now. So it wouldnt be too hard for me to adjust.

37. Do you read a lot? What’s your favorite book?

I actually dont read books :( I read comics and manga tho but as far as books tho I dont really have a favorite. I really enjoyed reading the Hobbit tho back in middle school tho.

http://turqis.tumblr.com/ I saw your ask about wanting an English speaker to practice with & I've been looking for someone to practice German with, so I'd be willing to help out if you're interested. I'm in German IV right now, if that gives you any idea of where I'm at (and my class is horrible, so I don't get much practice. Literally today a kid described a presentation as, and I quote "nice and to the punkte"). I don't know if you're only interested in people from the UK though, because I am American (alas) although I do study international accents & dialects.

*also I would have sent this as an ask, but I think your askbox is closed. That's fine, although it might make communication easier, unless you prefer gmail or something, which would also work. Let me know ~thanks :)

Hi So, im a german sophomore who is learning ancient Greek. Im learning Latin for 4 years now so I thought greek would be easy. But I still had a hard time learning the vocab last year and want to do it better now, so do you have any tips for me pls?

Okay, here are some basic tips that I hope should help you:

Never assume it’s going to be easy, no matter how much Latin you’ve had previously. Although Greek has some similar constructions and even some words which Latin takes from it, Greek really is an entirely different animal.

That being said, I would encourage you to learn your prefixes and “little words” well. Learn what upo, ex, ek, apo, and so on mean rather than looking it up every time they appear in a sentence.

Learn common root nouns and verbs for speaking, thinking, doing, killing, etc. If you don’t have principle parts down yet, pick out one word of each basic construction (regular, irregular, deponent, mi verbs) and learn that one thoroughly. It will help you to reasonably deconstruct similar words in the long run.

Don’t stress out if you can’t remember everything at first, or if certain words won’t stick in your mind as easily as others. For some of us, only experience translating and repetition will really nail home some of the more obscure definitions (I’m looking at you, Middle Voice).

But most of all, remember: learning a new language, no matter how many you already know, is hardly ever easy. It’s going to be difficult, at least in the beginning and especially when “exceptions” start popping up. But you can handle it.
