September 18, 2017 - Blue-fronted Amazon, Blue-fronted Parrot, or Turquoise-fronted Amazon (Amazona aestiva)
These parrots are found in central South America. Their diet is made up of fruit, seeds, berries, nuts, and buds. Living in pairs or flocks of several dozen, they are one of the most common parrots in their range. Nesting in tree cavities, females incubate clutches of three to five eggs for up to 28 days. Though they are classified as a species of Least Concern by the IUCN, they are commonly captured for the pet trade and are threatened by habitat loss in some parts of their range.
Parrots often turn up as props in European fruit/food feast still life paintings, such as these works by Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller (Austrian, 1793-1865):

🆔 The parrot looks like the subspecies of Turquoise-Fronted Amazon (Amazona aestiva aestiva) native to E. Brazil - perhaps an import from the Dutch Brazil colony?
PS - Some of her works have likely been misattributed to her father, but fortunately she signed this one, right below the parrot!

When my mom first got me I had air sac mites. I had breathing problems and would whistle and click. I breathed with my mouth open and bobbed my head. I even drooled like a dog! My mom took me to the vet and that is how they discovered I had air sac mites. I got medicine that I had to take by mouth (I was not a good boy for this and bit mommy every single day) and the vet also gave me a shot (he got bit for this too)! I am happy and healthy now.
