Analysis - Deep Water Horizon

Hi there,

I synthesised a video from a petroleum engineer and reports to analyse the Deepwater Horizon disaster. The engineer among other reports outlined that there were four reasons, and only these reasons combined together, that caused the incident. Beginning analysis, I realised the technique is not only about learning what happened, but also suggesting all the ways to fix the problem.

Recommendations to mitigate the problem in the future:

Add regulation to test blowout protectors and blind shear ram bi-annually under emergency scenarios

Use multiple devices across the entire rig that are automated, to test for hydrocarbon on top of manual tests.

Create a regulatory body made up of safety engineers from each of the six oil companies. Oil companies from other countries need to be incentivised.

Make long string design illegal and make line and tie back design compulsory or add a third safety mechanism

Add circuit breakers to turn off all non-compulsory electronics, as well as for compulsory electronics in the event of a gas leak. Measuring average loads and ensuring they are far below unsafe thresholds.

Studio Project 1: Create 2 portraits using only geometric /standard shapes.

I have chosen to draw portraits of Billie Eilish (left) and Kanye West (right). 

I chose Billie Eilish as she is currently one of my favourite singers along side the fact that her music really inspires me to be creative. 

I also chose Kayne West as every other rapper I like is really hard to draw and with a mix of his neural expression and lack of hair made for a really easy portrait when limited to only using geometric shapes.
