Mytho’s evolution of ... well, I hesitate to say “character” as clearly that is a lie. Attitude toward Tutu, then. He begins apathetic toward her, then fearful, and now he’s sliding toward obsessed. I don’t believe it’s “love”, any more than I believe a pretty rock can embody love. But in fairness to Mytho, how the fuck is he supposed to know WHAT he’s feeling. Someone tells him it’s love, he’ll believe it, in the same way that you could give a habanero pepper to someone and tell them it’s a cheese danish, and if they’ve never had a sense of either, they’d go with it.
Hmmmmmm though. HMMM. Mytho’s journey with Tutu at the center, as both the driver for his return to emotions and its current focal point, makes me begin to wonder a thing. How much does Tutu herself “exist”, in that she’s a real person? WE MUST NEVER FORGET THAT AHIRU IS A DUCK. And if Ahiru is a duck who becomes a girl, and that girl becomes a Tutu, then it may follow that Tutu is no more real than me putting on a giant foam PIkachu suit.
What if Tutu isn’t part of Ahiru? What if Ahiru is just where Tutu is staying right now? Tutu, with her red gem we’ve decided to call a thing whether it is that thing or not.
What I’m getting at is: IS TUTU A LOST MYTHO SHARD AND IS MYTHO REALLY OUR MAGICAL GIRL????
(I’m completely unspoiled for Princess Tutu and watching it for the first time. Please don’t confirm or deny anything in this post, give me hints or cautions or suggestions about future episodes, or try to explain anything going on. That includes if I should’ve been able to figure it out from previous episodes, or if it’s cultural, or if there’s no answer at all. Spoiling the experience only ruins things for everyone!)
