MY TOP 5/10 ROMANTIC SHIPS PER SHOW ↳ the vampire diaries edition #2. Stefan Salvatore and Caroline Forbes
Okay that Steroline proposal scene was so great. Paul and Candice are such amazing actors. I feel like it’s so easy for proposal scenes to be super cliche and over within a minute, and I even knew this one was coming, but it was SUCH a great scene. Aw.

On the flip side I do want to say. Caroline just spent probably a couple hours (Sybil said that's how long it would take for Stefan to break from her control) huddled in a corner trying to avoid burning to death, with a piece of wood embedded in her spine. She's frustrated with Bonnie, but then immediately switches to compassion, holding Bonnie's grief and promising to be there for her and fight for her happiness.
They get a little bit of catharsis, and then Stefan appears. Harrowed. Having been forced to sit motionless for 2 hours over the corpse of his last living relative. And Caroline is immediately ready to hold his pain too.
She gives Bonnie a ride home (presumably continuing to act in a somewhat therapist manner) and as soon as she returns, is again turning her attention to Stefan's pain. She insists he talk about it, despite the fact that she must be exhausted too.
What a wonderful thing, that after what was surely an emotionally harrowing and exhausting day, she gets this moment of happiness. She is the only thing holding Bonnie and Stefan together, the only one not absolutely destroyed by Damon and Enzo's absence. So she's the one they need to lean on. And she will hold them up as long as she needs to.
But how beautiful. That at the end of that day she gets a sweet surprise that says, "Don't worry. I'm thinking of you too. You are my family. I love you."
I appreciate that they had the scene of Caroline apologizing for being a bad friend to Bonnie and committing to help her, insisting that Bonnie's happiness is always a part of her happiness but ... It does fall a little flat. Not even just because I know Bonnie later attends Caroline's wedding to the man who murdered the love of Bonnie's life. But also, idk. Maybe I just don't feel like Bonnie believes it. Or like Caroline understands the years of being everyone's last priority that Bonnie has experienced
Update: I'm emotional
