“Is that even sitting on him right?” Sabine snapped, glaring imperiously down at the tailor. Rook made a mental note to pay him extra. The Sabine Tax. She turned on Rook, “You look different; what, did you gain weight?”
“In the last seven years, eating meals rather than rations, and going from twenty-four to thirty-one years old?” he asked, cocking an eyebrow. Livvy smirked behind her sister. “I’d hope so, wouldn’t you?”
“I think he’s gained muscle, too,” Livvy offered. “Even if he’s too secretive to tell us how or why.”
“You try doing odd jobs with no physical skills and get back to me,” he shot back.
“It fits him quite well,” the tailor said kindly, finishing up his inspection. “We hardly altered it at all; I almost feel bad charging for it.”
“It’s not a pro—”
“Then why did you?” Sabine asked snidely.
Rook decided that after this he was going to need a stiff drink. Or six.

Thanks so much for the tag @songofamazon! This is going to be tricksy, because in addition to the rules below I am going to challenge myself not to use any of the ones I did when I played this game last.

Forcing himself to stay observant, alert, quiet, and unobtrusive for hours at a time every day and night was grueling in a way that could only be called boring on a good day.
As she pulled back and gave him a smile that held a hint of smirk, Rook swore he’d marry that woman one day.
“Dangerous, maybe, but calculated.”
“Elven magic, like ours, evolved over time. As did the elves’ language and symbology.”

For folks new here (hi new folks!), every Sunday I post a snippet of something I wrote this week in order to create an artificial deadline that tricks my ADHD into allowing me to get work done.
I did some editing this week on the GIT one-shots, and noodled around with a scene based on a prompt from a kind anonymous asker, but the bulk of what I wrote this week was from the Modern AU(tm) and The Ventus Job (the post-game sequel to GIT). So below the cut, unedited and unbeta’d entirely, is part of TVJ.

The juxtaposition of his neat and precise handwriting with his exuberance made her smile.
I got us invites to the Imperator’s party! Well, I got us invited by two of my cousins as their plus ones. Livinia says that technically you’re her date and I’m Sabine’s.
Don’t tell Sabine I said this, but you got the better end of that deal.
Livinia says she looks forward to meeting you. She also asked if you’re attractive and, when I said yes, if you were married. So there’s that. Please don’t leave me for my cousin.
Chuckling, Neve shook her head. “Not a chance, Trouble,” she murmured.
A luxury ship came in today. I got my hands on the manifests; none of our list of culty convicts were listed on there, but the port of origin was Minrathous. It might be that they’re using false names. It could also be that I’m paranoid. Tevinter is a big place; Ventus probably has some culty significance, with its history, but it’s hardly the only place they might turn up. Maybe whoever arrived today and arrived before really just hate construction noise.
Highbloods can be like cats. Normal noises can make them weirdly twitchy.
She snickered. Rook had more to say along those lines, speculating on the likelihood of Venatori turning up in various locations, but she’d made note of those when she’d first read his letter and if she walked down that mental path now she’d end up even more restless than she was.
Neve turned the page to the section she’d almost memorized.
It’s boring without you. You were right, because of course you were; I can do things without you, but it isn’t as much fun.
I miss you. Stay safe, okay Neve? I know you can take care of yourself — and you’re less likely than almost anyone I know to end up in trouble by accident —
The irony in Rook, of all people, saying that wasn’t lost on her.
-but I have to say it anyway. I like you, and I’m perfectly willing to ask the Mourn Watch to do weird shit to bring you back to life if need be, but I’d kind of prefer it not come to that. The Lich Lords kind of freak me out.
Neve couldn’t help a soft snort of laughter.
I love you. I can’t wait to see you. And if you need anything at all, just tell me. I’m only a little intimidated by Ashur, so I’ll show up in Minrathous whenever if you need me.
