to celebrate trans day of visibility i was admittedly just gonna do some trans headcanons but i thought about it and decided to bring out the childhood faves that were essential to my nb trans masc journey
left - petshop of horrors "D" who hated humans, yet seemed to have some degree of respect for queer people. he would regularly frequent queer establishments and explain queer concepts to ppl, both gender and sexuality related. and i dont remember if he himself is confirmed nb, but i remember that even during the early 2000s most ppl were like "well hes probably not cis". and that was very important to me.
middle - nabari no ou "Yoite", aka a name thats guaranteed to make me spontaneously burst into tears. he was an intersex trans boy who fell in love with another boy, the protagonist. (it was absolutely reciprocated) his ending was tragic, but the entire manga was tragic really. the x-gender and asexual author is more well known for "our dreams at dusk" nowadays, but nabari no ou is definitely very queer itself.
right - wish "kohaku", aka yeah of course CLAMP was my first exposure to the concept of non-cis gender people. i was a little tiny kid when i read wish for the first time. either it or ccs were my first manga and im ngl the tokyopop translation infuriated me. i looked up the manga after reading it and found out it misgendered kohaku who is canonically nonbinary, and i was soooo mad. imagine a little 6 year old being like "how dare they do they think im stupid of course kohaku isn't a girl" and then swearing to curse tokyopop for the rest of eternity.
