The Vision of Escaflowne
- The very definition of a SLOW BURN
If you haven't watched it yet, I urge you to do it now.
When Escaflowne aired in MTV Germany in the early 2000s a whole generation of young people (presumably a lot of them watched Sailor Moon in the 90s) sat down every Wednesday night (i think 10pm?) and watched this fascinating anime.
It had everything we wanted: magic, tragedy, violence (oh boi a lot of violence), AND LOVE SO MUCH LOVE.
What a slow burn!
In fact, the OTP never even got a kiss. (But hey, the hugged.)
Still, it was such a beautiful, heart wrenching story. (Despite the fact that they totally butchered the end.)
Grumpy, not so talkative Van and happy, bubbly Hitomi were such a great pairing. Star-crossed lovers, destined to find each other.
It reminded me a lot of Usagi and Mamoru, although TVoE actually took the time to explore Van's sorrow and pain.
I hope the community will come back alive at ao3. We had really, really great authors on FF.net.
The look on Van's face. 🥰
Iconic Hitomi save!
ICONIC VAN SAVE!
All I dreamed about was riding that dragon. 🤌
We might not have gotten our OTP kisses but we GOT A LOOOOT OF BEAUTIFUL HANDS AND HANDHOLDING. 😏
The way Van always knew how to mess it up.
Okay, who had tears here?
Yep. The ending. Still hurts to see it. The alternative endings sucked too. LoL.
