How To Choose The Right Bike Gloves For A Safe Ride?
After a helmet, gloves are the most important protection you wear when riding a two-wheeler. After all, when you meet an unfortunate event, the first thing you use to protect yourself is your hands. But not all gloves are made equal; some offer better safety than others. Hence, choosing the right gloves and wearing them every time you ride is imperative.
Parameters you must assess when choosing the right bike gloves for a safe ride:
· Two-wheeler and riding style:
The type of two-wheeler you ride heavily influences the selection of gloves. For durable, good-quality, and smooth bikes, you can opt for gloves that support an already superior quality drive. Moreover, your riding style and the climate you drive in matters a lot. If you are a mountain biker, you need more sturdy gloves, preferably a mix of leather and textile. Whereas, if you are a general rider, you can do with only leather ones.
· Material:
Ideally, the best material for protective gloves is leather. You can opt for perforated leather gloves to get some ventilation at speed. However, with recent advancements, several textiles, mesh, or leather glove variants are available. Also, remember to take waterproof gloves or even better textile waterproof gloves for superior performance.
· Protectors:
Most gloves, usually of low quality, have thermoplastic armour, which does not offer the right care for your hands. You should look for gloves that offer knuckle, joint and thumb-protectors specifically. Some good gloves offer additional leather on the heel and top of the palm. These protectors help to minimize the impact of a crash.
· Fit:
The fit of the gloves is the most significant selection criteria. Your gloves should be tight enough to permit all ordinary hand movements. You could easily gauge this by making a fist. Forming a fist should be possible but not easy. In case it is not possible, you might need to select a bigger size. Moreover, the leather should not bunch up in the palm. You should check the longevity of the gloves at the time of purchase. Usually, gloves last for a year without any holes, which is typically more than 35,000 kilometres for an average rider. Alternatively, you can consider race gloves, which have a great feel but hole faster.
· Other features:
Some other features you should look for in your gloves include insulation for driving in winters, ventilation above the glove, etc.
