Imo, Anran's design just doesn't hit the mark. The absolutely westernized botched Wuxing/Wuxia refs aside, and Anran's 3d model face that not only looks unrelated to Wuyang but YOUNGER than Wuyang aside, you're telling me Anran's supposed to be a traditional chinese fan dancer inspired character and sprained injury leg-brace user rep?
One: Her look in the cinematic had big sister tough vibes, but the in-game base design is too skimpy to take seriously, it boarders on orientalist. She isn't even wearing a stylized Qipao (Traditional chinese fan dances are often performed in clothing like Qipao), the upper half is wrong, the bottom is slanted to the side instead of straight, and it is missing key features of Qipao like Pankou knots.
Her recent panda skin gave her some compression tights which imo better fits her athletic look, heck it could just be one leg with a compression tight and one leg bare with a knee brace if they wanted, and it would sell the athletics idea better.
Regardless, her knee brace is more so a compression knee support, but it looks like randomly slapped on armor. If someone constantly sprained ankles and knees they would have a more sturdy brace, perhaps Anran could have had armor designed to look like an ACL brace using a fan-like joint mechanism to carry her fan motif + horizontal leg scale lines as her motif is the Vermillion Bird.
OR, they could have included actual Achilles taping in Anran's design, as she apparently has a voiceline about forgetting to tape it. There's lots of options to make her legs less boring looking.
Also, I am unsure what the one sided strap on her foot is supposed to be, unless it's an ankle brace with the frame on the wrong part of the foot? Or maybe it's some kind of Wuxing tech. It doesn't seem to be sock suspenders because only one (ankle compression support? I assume?) sock has it, and sock suspenders are usually only used on kneesocks or higher.
But yeah. If Anran was meant to be a brace user representation, she fails. A person constantly getting sprains would be wearing more armor or more compression than what she is wearing. I really really hope they didn't iterate braces out of her design in the concept art phase. I can only speculate until we see her concept art, though.
