Isn't it funny how Ragatha and (ugghh) Jax have trademark fears? Specifially of things that come from nature?
I mean think abt it. Centipedes are things that you don't really want to see, but they're not all that threatening (unless you provoke them). Yes they all cause pain, but they aren't life threatening (usually), and they help keep smaller bugs in check.
You know what that reminds me of?
Anger.
Something that occurs naturally in everyone, that you don't want to see, and will always hurt someone when acted upon (including yourself).
Ragatha has been hurt by her mom due to anger so many times before, and she refuses to let her own temper hurt others.
But, anger isn't all bad. Its often the result of smaller emotions like annoyance with a certain situation building up. When used to fix a situation (like injustice) it "eats up" the smaller emotions and ensures that the world is a happier place.
When used constructively, anger is a great tool, but it shouldn't be used unless as a last result, due to its inherent destructiveness.
But Ragatha isn't using her anger constructively, really she isn't using it at all, just pushing it down further and further.
She's felt the whip of wrath, she can't bring herself to inflict its pain onto others, even if it knocks some sense into them.
And as for Corn....
Its unassuming, a staple food of the world, and is overall, not dangerous (unless you have an allergy). Its also covered by leaves, and you have to peel them back in order to reveal the vegetable.
It's also a plant. It don't do much except grow and get harvested. It's less "real" than, say, a centipede, which moves around and makes a tangible impact on the world (even if it hurts).
Everyone and their mama knows that Jax has a teensy weensy problem with opening up. It's painful, it requires him to give up control (and he HATESSS that), and it leaves him vulnerable. Thats not good for someone who has Serious Masculinity Issues and has already dealt w/ a close friend (maybe) dying.
He is very at ease with centipedes (representing anger, a more Masculine Emotion), at least enough to sic them on Ragatha, just to see her reaction.
Also, we the audience find out abt Ragatha's fear of centipedes (which she is not ashamed to admit even in front of strangers) in the Pilot, but its implied the cast has known for a while. We the audience already know abt Jax's corn fear thanks to Gooseworx making so many jokes abt it, but the Cast learns about it in ep 5, the same ep that we got a Lore Drop on some of the characters.
Idk man this can't be all a joke.
