How close are Connie and Bess?
Well, let's just say Connie once tried a diva cup because Gal raved about hers and it got stuck. And Bess is already up in that general area quite a bit for work already. So....
And one time, when gardening, Bess somehow got bit by a spider right in her buttcrack and it was hell when it festered up. And Gal can't handle pus. And Addie doesn't do blood very well. So....
These ladies are ride or die. “Oh, that’s cute.” No. No, you don’t understand. They are RIDE OR DIE. They will look at many things and put their hands MANY places to help their soul-sister.
Connie, that exact scenario is a NIGHTMARE of mine. I have one and I’m too scared to let it go too deep because I know it can and I know it can get stuck if a very specific series of events happens.
Poor Connie would be like, “Bess. I’m so sorry. I’ll buy you dinner. A couple drinks. … While you’re down there, does everything look okay? I know I’m older, so … you know.” So much trust. 🥹💕
It’s definitely a bonding moment to be between your bestie’s legs and start poking around more than their man has. 😂
OUGHHH THAT’S PAINFULLLLL.
Connie is up in there with rubbing alcohol and her esthetician tools wrangling that bite and disinfecting it to high heaven.
For her socialite image, Connie has a pretty strong stomach. Blood, gore, bodily fluids don’t get to her. They’re not pleasant, but will she faint or throw up? No. Will she be disgusted? Nah.
And she’d talk the whole time to try and subtract Bess from any pain. If Bess had instructions, you bet Connie follows them perfectly. She’s not risking her sister getting any bigger infection.
“Annnnd tissue for a few seconds. Okay. How are you doing? Good? Phew, I’m relieved to hear that! Okay, just a bit more squeezing, and we’ll have that pus gone.”
Welp.
I got bit by a spider.
Essentially, I woke up this morning with these bumps on my chest. I assumed they were just mosquito bites, since those are common. Though, as the day went on, I took notice of some fang marks.
Cue me having an anxiety attack because... I got bit by a spider while I was sleeping.
LUCKILY, we ruled out Brown Recluse and Black Widow (the bite does look REMOTELY close to what those monstrosities can do to your skin. Plus, I'm not experiencing symptoms, other than the typical itching, swelling, redness, etc.), and it was probably just a normal house spider or something. Currently treating it rn, but still a bit on edge.
Also, I had to look at images of spider bites and compare them. Plus a myriad of spider pictures.
Oh... so many Brown Recluse pictures...
Anyways, DON'T WORRY. I'M FINE. Was terrified when I made the connection, but I'm feeling a lot better now.
This seems redundant and stupid lol, but this is literally the first time it's happen to me.
Oh, anxiety, you certainly are a joy, aren't you?
I never thought I was gonna be able to say this
but My dad is at the hospital due to a spider bite and it’s been making him dizzy and shit so I’ll be updating yall please keep my dad in your prayers
opinions on spiders? any strong opinions on any other bugs?
Okay so. My relationship with spiders is a bit weird. Because I used to be huuuugely arachnophobic. TW because this is gonna get maybe a little gross for some people. I won’t get super graphic or anything but like, just to be safe.
When I was in 7th grade, I suddenly kept coming up with spider bites. Most of them were small and nbd, but I had two on the back of my leg at one point that were very big and very gross. Then, shortly after those were handled and healed up, I got one on my jawline. My dad picked at it, thinking it was a zit, and when I woke up the next morning I had a softball on my face. Dad wouldn’t take me to the doctor, because it was Sunday we had church and yardwork to deal with. So, my mom had to pull me out of school the next day and take me. At the doctor’s office, in an attempt to shame my mother for not being more responsible, as if it were her fault (my dad had neglected to inform her until that morning; he called her as he was driving us to school), the nurse said, very pointedly and loudly, with me, a small just-about-to-hit-puberty cares-about-her-looks-for-the-first-time-in-her-life preteen girl, right there in the room, “You’re lucky you brought her in when you did, her face was about to start rotting off.”
So, I was already kind of theoretically afraid of spiders at that point. Brown Recluses were The Hot New Trend in mass hysteria at the time and I was young and impressionable. I went from an outdoorsy kid who didn’t exactly like spiders but wasn’t overly bothered by them as long as they weren’t crawling on me, to the sort of exaggerated hysterical freakouts at the mere threat of a spider’s existence in my vicinity, basically overnight.
And it took me literal years to recover from that. I always knew spiders were important and all that, but I Did Not Care for a long time. If I saw it, it was dead. Someone was gonna kill it for me. Eventually I was brave enough to kill them myself.
The thing that finally got me over my fear was the fact that, at the time, I was best friends with an attention whore. This is relevant because my attention whore best friend eventually noticed how people coddled me if I had a spider-related panic attack, and decided she wanted in on that action, stat. So she went from someone who was maybe? scared of spiders? but never showed any signs of real arachnophobia that I’d seen, to being as dramatic as she could possibly manage at someone even saying the word spider. And it was fucking annoying. And I thought, wow, I don’t wanna be That Guy.
tl;dr I basically got over my arachnophobia to flex on my ex-best friend. Now I like spiders, just... from a distance. Like, if I see it in my house, I will try to catch it and take it outside. I will probably still freak out and kill it if it climbs on me, though. Aesthetically, I love them, and I admire what they do for our ecosystems. I just... don’t want them touching me, ever.
I also love bees. Bees are the fucking best. I will fucking fight someone over bees. Wasps and other bee-adjacent but scary bugs are the devil on the earthly plane but like, I’m more or less alright with the devil so I give them a pass as long as they stay the fuck away from me.
Other bugs I have strong opinions about are mostly “*insert type of bug* is fucking cool” because bugs are fucking cool.
Except cockroaches. Cockroaches are the fucking worst.
Does anyone know and good remedies for spider bites? I have a huge bite on my ankle and it itches like crazy. None of the creams or itch spray are working. I have an ice pack I tied to my ankle but that's only half way working. And I'm supposed to be cleaning the house and I cant cause its partly swollen.
Surprisingly, he smiles at that- not the feral pride of before, but something gentler, softer, wondering. She can feel the vibration of a sound from deep in his chest through the feet of ground separating them, and it takes several seconds before she realizes that Hulk is laughing. “Blue Eyes scared of spiders? Spiders tiny! Good friends. Eat skeets. Skeets bad, make small ones sick.”
For a moment, she seems about to panic– it’s only after he speaks again that she recognizes that he just thinks this is funny, not that her fearof him is hilarious.
“I mean, yeah, but some of them are bad and I got bit by a really bad one when I was little. I mean, really little.”
Darcy holds up one hand, fingers splayed like he had earlier, and one extra one from her other hand.
“I was six. Made my arm balloon up. There was gross stuff. It wasn’t fun. And, like, I know that it’s only that kinda spider and it was my fault for touching it, but I…just freak out.”
Quiet for a moment, before she looks skyward. Anywhere to avoid looking him in those eyes.
“Kinda like I know you won’t hurt me, but I’m still…”
