“We’re in the middle of a thunderstorm and you want to stop and feel the rain?”

"Oh no." Virgil let go of Roman's hand as he looked up to the sky quickly. He felt the rain drop slowly, then it got more aggressive and he could feel it soak through his hoodie at a rapid rate.

"So, we've been going on dates at the park for quite a while now and we always bring an umbrella. Soo... who's the one who didn't want to bring one because we apparently wouldn't need it?" Roman smirked sarcastically as he brushed his soaking wet hair off of his face and took Virgil's hand once again, just before he could hear an equally sarcastic response. He felt a light squeeze of his hand as the thunder started to roll in, soft and low. He wrapped his arm around Virgil, making sure he knew that everything was okay.

"Come on, it's a five minute walk to my place. Let's go... otherwise we're both going to be completely and utterly drenched!" He tugged on Virgil's hand, but surprisingly, he didn't move.

Virgil was staring at the sky, laughing softly to himself. Roman couldn't help but smile as he saw his boyfriend embracing the thunderstorm, despite his slight fear of thunder. He began to spin around, and Roman couldn't help but be pulled in.

"I just want to stop, breathe in the moment and feel the rain. I might be afraid of the thunder, but the rain grounds me." Virgil shrugged while he spoke, he turned away like it was a silly thing to say. Roman chuckled, and he softly put a hand on the side of Virgil's face, pushing it gently so he could look into Virgil's eyes.

"So, let me get this straight..."

"Good luck with that..." Roman rolled his eyes at that terrible joke, and had to pause for a second to remember what he was going to say.

"We're in the middle of a thunderstorm, something that you hate by the way, and you want to stop and feel the rain?" He was a bit bemused, why did he want to stay out here? Roman didn't mind, it was romantic and all- just uncharacteristic for Virgil.

"It just reminds me of something I read once: 'Stand in the rain and close your eyes. The first person you imagine standing with you, is the only person you want to be with at your most vulnerable. That's how you know you love someone...'" His smile gradually got wider and wider, as Roman finally understood what Virgil meant.

"Everytime I've been caught in the rain, the only person I wanted with me was you... and now it's finally happened, even though we've been together for a while. It just reminds me that there's no one else I ever want to be stuck outside in a thunderstorm with." Roman was completely speechless, so he pulled Virgil closer before closing the gap between them with a soft kiss.

They pulled apart as the lightning struck across the sky, that was their cue to finally leave. Virgil grabbed Roman's hand and they ran. Suddenly, they could both agree that their favourite weather was a thunderstorm.
