Fishing Net Decoration
I had some shells and other beach décor for my guest bathroom and I didn’t like how I had them displayed. Bathroom beach décor seemed so overdone, but I had the things and wanted to use them. I just wanted it to look more unique. I thought that displaying the shells in one of those old fishing nets would look really neat.
I like to make things myself so I looked into making a net. I bought some jute twine off of Amazon and looked up how to make a net on the internet. I found this site and used their framing and knotting technique to get started on my net.
BUT... did I want to make a small, manageable sized net for my first endeavor? Of course not! I wanted to make a large net to hang in my bathroom as a major eye-catching piece. I used a giant sheet of cardboard as my frame (Now I use plywood with screws at premeasure points) and got to work with my knots.
I knotted and knotted and knotted. Eventually, I realized that I had only purchased enough twine to make about one quarter of the net that I wanted. At the same time, I had started creating some other things with the twine; the possibilities were endless! So, I needed more twine, a lot more!
While one roll of twine wasn’t very expensive, about 8 dollars, several rolls of twine would add up and I didn’t want to spend a fortune on my net! I looked for a bulk option for twine and found some on Uline: 3800 feet of twine for about $22 plus $18 shipping. If I had purchased that much from Amazon I would have paid over $300 for it. Yikes! I love bulk.
Admittedly, this twine wasn’t as “pretty” as the tiny roll from Amazon, but I actually liked the way the different twines made the net look. I finally finished knotting my net after about 20 hours.
