This Week in Wizard Activism: Have You Sent Your Books to Puerto Rico?!
By Whitley Albury & Sara Mortensen
Welcome to This Week in Wizard Activism!
Have You Sent Your Books to Puerto Rico yet?!?!?
If not, now’s the time! There are only a few weeks left in this year’s Accio Books campaign! Throughout April and May, HPA members and Chapters from all over the world have been collecting books to send to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico!
We can’t overstate the importance of this campaign. With the books collected from Accio Books, the Boys & Girls Clubs will enrich their ESL (English as a Second Language) programs, support students in exploring STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) and tourism careers, and build mini lending libraries for their participants!
After you mail your books, don’t forget to submit your points to the House Cup! As of the writing of this, Ravenclaw is in the lead with Hufflepuff not far behind. There’s still time to help your House win!
And while you’re at it, take a look at the latest article in our Accio Books Medium Series! This one takes an inside look at what Accio Books is like from the perspective of an HPA chapter!

Earlier this week, by a vote of 52 to 47, the U.S. Senate approved a congressional resolution of disapproval that would reverse the Federal Communications Commission (FCC)’s decision late last year to repeal the 2015 Open Internet Rules.
This is a HUGE victory, and the HPA played an important role in making it happen! But also: the fight is not over yet, and this movement faces an even bigger challenge in the House. Keep your wands at the ready for the next phase of this battle!
Take a look at this post from Fight For the Future to prepare for this uphill battle.
