Two Fires Meet in the Sand
starter @multinarutoverse
Alvena’s vision went black after Cheesa pushed her through a portal she had open. Cheesa’s last mission was to keep Alvena safe before returning to where she once had been summoned from. The winds that constantly moved around Alvena slowly waned since she fell unconscious, her descent was tempered enough to keep her from dying as she landed on a sand dune. The duffel bags she carried absorbing most of the impact, yet their weight causing her to roll down the steep slope. As Alvena reached the bottom her right arm struck a rock, a loud snap muffled in the sand as she cried out bringing her back to reality quite painfully. Her body finally came to an halt, the sun’s heated rays blaring down on her.
Alvena laid in the sand waiting for her vision to clear as she tried to blink away the blurriness that was plaguing her. Waves of dizziness and nausea assaulted her as she pushed herself up with her left arm, her right pressed to her chest as she glanced around to survey the terrain and search for Cheesa. Once she saw the sand go on for miles she knew this wasn’t Darthnara, she also knew it was not a dream nor was she dead. She managed to get to her feet, she was going to try to get as far as she with what little strength that remained in her.
Alvena walked for what seemed like hours, her fiery tresses matted her head and face as sweat evaporates from her face and scalp. Her leather outfit becomes uncomfortable as it rubbed her flesh as it grew damp. Reaching up her left hand to shade her celadon hues as a shadow formed in the distance, dancing in the heat radiating up from the ground. She had made the shadow her goal, needing to get out of the sun. Even though it seem to grow closer her vision blurred, her knees buckled and she sunk to the sand with a soft thud her eyes rolled back as she passed out from exhaustion and dehydration.

❝ Discretion isn’t really your thing, is it? ❞
"Hehe, what gave it away?" Kaos grinned sheepishly and dispersed her magic flames. "Ok, we'll do it your way. But next time we go in loud!"

Two fires - somewhere between?
“And you? Are you somewhere between the two fires? Have your fumbles and stumbles left you questioning your place in God’s plan? If so, let this story (Jesus reinstates Peter – John 21:15-19) remind you that Christ is not finished with you either. . . . Jesus went on a search and rescue mission for Peter. He will do the same for you.”- Max Lucado
“Then the disciple Jesus loved said to Peter, ‘It is the Lord.’ When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his tunic (for he had stripped for work), jumped into the water, and headed to shore.”- John 21:6-7 (NLT)
Max Lucado concludes Chapter 11 of Never Alone as he notes that when Peter recognized Jesus standing on the shore, he dove like a missile into the water. But as Peter walked toward Jesus, the first thing he saw was – a fire of coals (v. 9).
Above all, the last time the gospels mentioned a fire of coals, Peter stood next to it. In addition, Peter denied the very name of Christ, cussing like a sailor. Thus, Max believes the fire of coals on the beach represented Jesus invitation to Peter to talk. Because when Peter denied Jesus, he failed publicly and painfully. Consequently, Jesus restored him publicly and personally.
Most significantly, Pastor Lucado explains, we need to receive the pure grace of God:
“No one makes it through life failure-free. No one . . . . I haven’t, and you won’t. There is within each of us the capacity to do the very thing we resolve to avoid. At some point the stallions within break down the corral and we — for a moment, a day, or a decade — run wild. If this has happened to you, remember the seaside breakfast. When this happens to you, remember the seaside breakfast. Jesus still gives what he gave peter: complete and total restoration.”
Finally, Max notes, less than two months after standing before that charcoal fire on the beach, Peter preached the inaugural Pentecost sermon!
Today’s question: At present, do you find yourself somewhere between the two fires? Please share.
