I am guessing the answer is going to be complicated but would it be alright if I asked you to describe your painting process? I am really invested in taking my own art style in a more paint style direction and I love how your pieces always have a feel for the brushstrokes on them. So I am interested in hearing your approach in this >..>
1. It’s incredibly flattering that you’d come to me for advice
2. You’re right, it’s going to be complicated
so strap in, we’re going for a ride!
first one is the sketch, second one - about halfway through the process
I always start shaping the drawing with larger brushes, after which the shapes start to become more complicated as I start switching to smaller and smaller brushes
I like to call the later stages of my drawings “carving”, since it’s all about using and blending the colors present on the canvas, and moving them in specific directions connected to the shape you’re trying to form
If I’m ever using softer brushes (for creating atmosphere, blending colors, just delicately shifting the look of some parts of the drawing) it’s always at the earlier stages. After that I start using more confident brushstrokes, if I’m trying to get a softer feeling I just pay very close attention to the colors used, so that they blend well together.
The process is pretty chaotic, the shapes keep changing up until the piece is finished. Because of that I don’t really separate the subject from the background, since everything continously bleeds into one another. Though this i strictly a matter of preference.
Another thing that defines the comfort of painting is the brush
I know there are lots of people who can pull off painterly artstyle while using simple, circular brushes, but honestly that’s not me, and I feel like using a textured brush can really help with feeling the painting. That however depends heavily on the software that you’re using and honestly any brush can work, as long as it is on high opacity to get those strong strokes in!
I’m not sure if this helps, I hope you can make some sense out of it. If you have some more questions regarding specifics then I’d be happy to answer them!
Good luck!
Hello! I love your blog and I'd just like to ask about the myths out there about Apollo being a good dad!
Hello! Here's a post that contains all the myths of Apollo being a good father :3
Playing In Shadows
Prior to waking up chained to an altar, all Apaera recalled was darkness, all consuming, cold darkness. She had no recollection of how she was taken, all she knew was that there was no one to search after her now that she was gone. It could have been hours, or minutes that she had spent like that, chained and wailing in pain as the darkness choked around her, the priests all muttering in unison, how her bitterness was sweet to their lady.
It was only once she truly heard what they were saying that she refused to abide them. With the last bit of strength she could summon, fueled by primal hatred towards those that stole away her life, she laughed, a broken, mocking sound as she struggled against them with all her remaining will. That moment, she swore that if she was to survive, she was going to chase those responsible for her suffering as enemies.
This is from the PM, as there were two I combined them into a post.
The room seemed to grow darker with the prayers of those who payed homage to Shar. Many believed it was a sign from their goddess. They would die with there jubilation of how she had heard their faithful prayer on their lips. One by one, the light sources douse as though touched by the hand of an unseen force, until only a singular light source was left. It was of course a needed thing to cast shadows into the room.
The woman laughing on the alter was a concern she was not one of them. One of their sacrifices perhaps, these deluded fools believed that she wanted them to offer her others. Shar, devoured everything given to her, but her most treasured devotions were from people themselves. "Oh, how we delude ourselves." he said with a low whispery voice that carried in the room. Mask, thought that these were some of the same sect that had been deceived by the slaad. How quick to grasp at any power dangled before them they were.
The sounds that came from the dim lit room that grew heavier in shadow, were of death, It couldn't be described as combat. These fools had very little idea what was coming for them. The sickeningly sweet metallic scent was quickly filling the room. Normally, Mask was less likely to interfere with mortals---directly--he still toyed with those who amused him, his chosen, priests of Cyric were also a favorite. These fool died to sooth his temper at Shar, at her corruption of things he had taught he Shadowmaster's from Telflamm.
When the movement ceased the final candle went out plunging the room into darkness. The Lord of Shadows paused dark light illuminated the room enough to catch sight of a slender form clad in gray leather, a mask obscuring his face. "Now, what to do with you---the question is are you capable of functioning broken ?" he was clearly speaking to Apaera.

The mage turns at the comment, dark eyebrow rising. A silent quirk of her lips indicated a smirk forming.
“Well, thank you for noticing~”
