Here's a concept: Crewel knows which of his students want you and which don't. So during projects, he's very strategic, pairing up all suitors with each other so none are near you. And only pairing you with students who don't like you romantically. Either way, this plan always succeeds because it can go one of two ways: (1) you remain grouped with those who have no romantic interest in you so he doesn't have to worry as much, OR (2) you end up alone because those same students you were paired with opted to save their own skin by avoiding you to also avoid incurring the jealous wrath of those who do hold romantic interest in you.
That's when he allows you to work with him, maybe even help during the demonstrations for your grade. This is a win in his eyes, and he doesn't bother hiding his grin when he sees some of his students seething because they weren't paired with you. At the same time, he's watching each one carefully. If anyone even thinks about trying to talk to you, he's scolding them for not focusing on the project.
Another concept: Crewel and Vil have started not so subtly trying to one up each other. It all started with Crewel gifting you an accessory for your hair, and Vil couldn't help but notice. Next thing you know, Vil was gifting you a slightly more expensive accessory. Crewel noticed, and did the same. Every week now, you could expect something new from each of them.
A final concept: I was thinking of how Crewel would feel about others spending time with you. We already know he doesn't approve of them, he doesn't even think they're worthy of being your friends, but let's try and sort them into categories. These are up for debate, but here's what I came up with:
"If you have to spend time with one of those pups, then I suppose there are worse options." He begrudgingly allows it only because you asked.
