liu yan is so consumed by his hatred & need for vengeance that he's forgotten (or suppressed?) his own hands helped ease the pain of others. that brief pause when he hears the crowd sing his praises, it's almost like he remembered the good he used to do, that's quickly squashed as the next scene has him talking about killing tang lici' friends.

it feels like such a sunk cost fallacy, he's already spent so much, done so much harm to himself and others that when tang lici brings up up the thought that maybe you're wrong about me, did you really understand the scene that day, did i truly kill fang zhou? liu yan cannot and will not acknowledge it, like bros in too deep to back out now.
