WIP Wednesday (4/30) | Mer Roadtrip AU (Part 136)

ANDREW

Turns out there is a spare and a jack. Along with a red and black varsity jacket, which fits Andrew pretty well. What a nice surprise. After trying it on and tossing it in the backseat, Andrew watches Neil change the tire and doesn't offer any help whatsoever. This is partly because Andrew would be no help since he's never changed one and partly because he's too busy watching Neil work. By the time he's through Neil's worked up a sweat and Andrew thinks it suits him very well.

"When we-" Neil pauses to grunt as he lifts the ruined tire into the trunk. Andrew files the sound away and Neil slams the trunk. "When we get to civilization, we need to replace this thing."

"Aye, aye." Andrew says with a salute. Neil rolls his eyes before using the hem of his shirt to wipe sweat off his face. Doing so reveals much of his abdomen and Andrew's eyes skim his bare skin shamelessly, only because Neil isn't looking at him. There are a handful of scars littering Neil's belly, some that make no sense at all. Fuck, Andrew'd like to—

"We should probably double check our route too, so we don't wind up in the middle of nowhere again."

"Mm, sure." Andrew listens to Neil talk but doesn't retain a word. He's too busy memorizing the slopes of his abs and the pale scars slapped across them.

"And I think-" Neil pauses. "Are you paying attention?"

Andrew's eyes flick to Neil's face just as he drops his shirt. "Of course."

Neil nods. "I think we should stop by a library and try to use a computer for directions."

"Whatever you want."

"Then let's roll."

Got long winded so I put the answers under a cut :)

1. What was the original thought that led to the creation of this character?

Tanis: Oblivion is a bit harder than Skyrim and the follower system is less developed, so the main plot seemed a lot lonelier and more demanding. I figured my HoK would have to be hyper-competent, but he doesn't have a special destiny outside of Martin's. i gave him a backstory that grants him relevant skills and the needed focus & intensity, but ultimately he is just some nobody from morrowind.

Seadhna: I just really wanted a character with trained crows who steal shit (because I want trained crows who steal shit). I initially conceived of her as far older but realized none of my Skyrim characters were children. kinda pitching myself softballs since she's on the cusp of adulthood, but whatever.

2. How long was the process before the character reached its final version? (or a version that would be clearly recognizable as the character?)

Tanis: really long, in some sense! Tanis is my most effective playthrough build, so he's been every gender, morality, and faction over the course of uhhhh 15 years. His personality didn't really crystallize until like, the 3rd iteration of the fic which became IITT (where I introduced Coradri to the mix).

Seadhna: In comparison relatively fast. I wasn't really sure what to do with the older character I initially came up with, so I didn't write a single word until I decided she is a kid (and way more vulnerable to manipulation by the guild).

5. How did you choose their name and why? Was it simply based on vibes or is there any specific meaning behind the name? Are the reasons behind their name different in- and out of universe?

Tanis is just a name I like! And happens to fit well with Velothi naming conventions. It is an actual name in the real world and generally considered feminine, but I know a handful of trans people who kept their birth names. Though it's not for me, I think it's kinda badass, so the feminine name was a deliberate choice. He would 100% approach gender in that way, like yeah i'm a guy with tits and a girl's name, wanna fight about it

Seadhna came from searching some traditional Gaelic names. I'm really shaky on how the pronunciation works but since it's at least visually similar to Cidhna Mine I wanted something that would mark her as Reachfolk (and it makes her stick out a lot in Riften). Also something in there about how the Nords occupying the Reach don't pronounce any of the old place names correctly

what's your earliest memory of playing the sims? 🌸

i was playing ts2 on the family computer in the living room (while my parents were watching tv) and i didn't know that there were cutscenes....so my sims woohooed and i literally put my whole body in front of the screen so they wouldn't see KDJJKSD i was in panic mode

what is your favorite sims series? (sims 3, 2, etc.)

sims 3 for nostalgia purposes but sims 4 in general ! honestly just bc the mods for ts4 just make the game so realistic and fun!
