over two years ago now, i lay in my ex’s bed, bawling my eyes out while he played video games, realising i didn’t think i liked men at all and silently repeating over and over again that i didn’t want this because i didn’t want to be different and i didn’t want to have to start over and i didn’t want to walk away, no matter how toxic and abusive the relationship was. i lamented the loss of the life i thought i’d have while he played games and didn’t even notice.

tonight, i laid on the balcony of my first apartment, overlooking a pretty city, with fairy lights flickering, with a beautiful girl beside me. everyone in my life knows now. no one yells at me while i drive or ignores me while i sob. i’m not constantly afraid anymore.

life is so much better.
