Sarah
"Sarah Hyndman is a graphic designer and educator who is curious about the psychology of typography".
On the 15/01/2015 we had a great guest speaker called Sarah Hyndman, she was definitely my inspiration to get more involved with type and how it works to our senses. She's recently brang out her own book on the typetasting website http://www.typetasting.com/, this website is very fun and really gets you involved with the typefaces used.
Sarah Hyndman 15th January 2015
We had a guest speaker yesterday, Sarah Hyndman, who spoke to us about her work in Type tasting, it was really interesting and inspirational how different aspects can effect how you perceive something, or comes across. For example she was telling us how she made an audience eat different flavoured jelly beans while reading different fonts and the effect the taste had on their perception of the type, it was really interesting and definitely made you think about different aspects in which typography can be effected, or can effect a situation. She also mentioned how type moves across the different stereotypes, through different layers which was a really interesting thought. I found the introduction of her career really interesting, and how she found herself where she is today; she mentioned how as designers you keep reinventing yourselves, and coming up with new ideas, do things in your spare time which will lead you to different ideas. As well as to really exploit the media you are working with to get its best outcome. It was really interesting to hear how and what inspires her to hire different designers, that as a designer you should get yourself noticed by making the person remember you, in her example she mentioned how a designer left a pencil with their contact details on which linked back to their project. Overall, a really interesting and intriguing lecture.
Pop-Up Typography Emporium
I hope these images get you feeling festive. I'm ashamed to say that I missed the Pop-Up Typography Emporium presented by the excellent Type Tasting, a few weeks ago in London. These type decorations would have looked great on the tree.
Merry Christmas to one and all!
