1. What type of organism causes typhoid?
Salmonella enterica serovar typhi
2. How was the disease transmitted?
When a person eats food / drinks beverages that have been handled by a person shedding the Salmonella typhi bacteria. It is also transmitted when sewage contamintaed with Salmonella typhi gets into water used for drinking or washing food.
3. How many people caught typhoid from Mary and died?
She infected 51 people, and 3 of them died. (approximate)
4. What is a carrier of disease?
An individual who serves as host for an infectious agent but who does not show any symptoms of the illness, but may serve as a source of infection for others.
