Yuneec announces Typhoon H Plus at CES 2018

New camera with 1″ sensor & 40% quieter flight

The new Typhoon H Plus still features six engines and rotors, so it can safely land in the event a single engine fails, but it benefits from some other upgrades. Yuneeec states the drone can fly as fast as 30mph and is good for about 28 minutes of flight time per charge.

The airframe is larger, so it's a bit more stable in the wind—it can fly on windy days where gusts reach 30mph. It's also quieter; Yuneec says it enjoys a 40 percent reduction in noise. Obstacle avoidance is included, powered by Intel RealSense—that was an option with the Typhoon H, but is standard with the Plus.

The camera enjoys a major upgrade. Yuneec's image and video quality has long lagged behind DJI, so hopefully the new 1-inch sensor changes that. It's the same type of chip we see in premium cameras like the Sony RX100 V and DJI's Phantom 4 Pro.

The camera can record 4K video at up to 60fps and 20MP images. Yuneec promises better low-light image quality when compared with its previous CGO3+ camera. The sensor should provide that, but we don't know the f-stop of the 23mm (full-frame equivalent) lens, which is a factor.

The H Plus ships with an updated remote, the ST16S, which is huge, in part due to its integrated 7-inch Android interface. The drone streams video to the controller at 720p quality.

The Typhoon H Plus is priced at $1,799.99 and will be available sometime before June.

Got to get a look at a new thermal camera for the Typhoon H by Yuneec while at Interdrone. The unit features both a regular camera as well as the thermal one, allowing the user to overlay one over the other. They weren't allowed to say price or release date, but expect it to come with a price tag of a couple thousand dollars and be announced towards the end of this year.
