🍀 - What originally inspired the OC?

Dragonfall was the first Shadowrun game in the trilogy I played, and I picked this portrait out of the options for humans:

and started trying to get a feel for what kind of character I wanted as I played. Of course I picked Decker, and then kind of shaped him as I went-- except he is SO different than my original ideas for him. He used to be way more of an amateur car salesman type of guy. He was just an average SINless Shadowrunner who knew Monika, and my idea was for him to kind of go off the rails and end up fully alienated from the team. But then Hide actually started to introduce himself to me-- first when I tried to come up with an idea for the pictured tattoo, then as I changed his appearance more, and even more as I gave him more depth. He is miles and miles different than the "first Hide" I came up with.

I'm actually replaying Dragonfall now, and its weird remembering what choices I made the first time I played (three years ago!) versus what I'm making now with his character in mind :')

🧠 - What do you like most about the OC?

He's' one of my OCs that feels the most "real" to me in the sense that he's fairly fleshed out and easy to make character decisions for! I like his dynamics with the canon characters and my OCs and I think his approach to life and getting to watch his growth as he breaks free from the cult programming he was raised under and lets himself grieve and work through the heaps of baggage and mental blocks he has is really fun. I especially like that as he changes he doesn't become less like himself-- his traits of being more quiet and less emotive don't vanish, they're just like... not weighed down by all the other things he has going on. I also like his social engineering and hacking aspect. That's so fun for me to research :]c little charismatic face of the team. and a charismatic face of the team who isn't a "bubbly" or "outgoing" person!

Irati hesitates. One hand twists around the wedding ring on her other, worrying at it. She types in bursts of just a few words at a time, deleting and then retyping, but when she shows you the datapad her motion is strong, not at all hesitant; the hardest part is formulating an answer, not revealing it.

I have no need for such a vague hypothetical. I change my own life, and I am glad to have done it. I will continue to do it. I am proud of who I am and I am proud of who I have forged myself into.

She stares with eyes the same golden colour as her earrings, daring the universe to come and contradict her if it thinks it's hard enough.

Of course, one can’t help but wonder what she might have changed her mind about changing.
