TZIPORAH: I got Gemma back to bed and settled in — though I can't guarantee she's asleep, the minute I shut the door, her and Zell were chattering away.

MINERVA: You really didn't have to get out in the middle of the night just for all this, but… thank you.

TZIPORAH: It's not like I'm doing this for free. [She laughs.] You're paying me in good wine and telling me everything about these null runes popping up in the world — Gemma said this is all to do with some weirdo that was on your lawn when you got home?

MINERVA: It's more my idiotic curiosity than 'some weirdo'; the minute I heard the words 'I need you to take a look at something' I could and should have told Greg Lunvik to fuck off and just gone inside… but no. [She sighs.] I had to entertain it and now here we are.

TZIPORAH: I'm a little surprised Vesta didn't do that for you and drag you in.

MINERVA: [She smirks tiredly.] If he ever comes back, I can't promise she won't. [A moment of silence settles between them, the conversation hitting a lull as Minerva sits there thinking.] He found Null Runes outside of Forgotten Hollow that he thinks are relatively fresh — not leftovers from the war… and I don't know why, but from what I could gather, he thinks it might have something to do with Bella going missing.

TZIPORAH: It sounds completely improbable but who's to say? Right now all that we know is that we know nothing and we have to keep in mind that any time something unfortunate happens, he's the first to lay the blame on Forgotten Hollow's doorstep; often without evidence and barely even cause. We can't just take his word.

MINERVA: If it was just the runes I'd agree, but he said there's word travelling around that Straud is no longer… dormant.

TZIPORAH: Now that I doubt. [She frowns, tensing a little in wariness in spite of herself.] What the hell could have possibly woken that thing up?

MINERVA: I don't know. And I don't know why I feel so strongly that Bella going missing and what happened to Emerson is somehow related if Greg's right about those runes being tied to her vanishing act. That's what I hate about all of this, that it doesn't make any damn sense. Rational Me knows I sound crazy, but … for some reason, my mind won't let go of the fact that there had to be Null Runes in that altar room and from the cursory glance we took of the space, I missed them. I tried every spell there was, Zip. Not a single spark, not battle magic, not healing magic… nothing worked and I could cast perfectly fine before we stepped foot in that temple. I don't know, it doesn't feel like an unfortunate coincidence.

TZIPORAH: Well there's one way you could figure out if there are ties — you're not going to like it, but…

MINERVA: Anything but going back to Selvadorada and to be honest, I'm half-considering that.

TZIPORAH: Not Selvadorada. Glimmerbrook. [She frowns.] Raid Emerson's office, his study, see if there's any clue that might have been left behind and overlooked all these years. Mentions of some enemy in an old diary, any lead — no matter how insignificant — on how Bella could possibly have been involved because that is what doesn't make sense. I don't want to dismiss you and say you are crazy or tell you that I really don't believe one has anything to do with the other, but you can't just ignore that a feral wolf's hunches and suspicions are not an actual link. She's a piece of this hypothetical puzzle that doesn't fit.
