After Kurt Cobain 's death, Dave Grohl formed Foo Fighters as a one-man side project.

When asked about the name, he said, "Had I actually considered this to be a career, I probably would have called it something else because it's the stupidest fucking band name in the world."

There you have it.  That's what Foo Fighters apparently means.
