I really like Komaeda's design in Ultra Despair Girls🤔🤔🤔 I think UDG Komaeda might genuinely be the most personally interesting character I've seen in Danganronpa... (oversaturated ramble incoming)
I don't remember much of danganronpa anymore as I haven't been active in the fandom for a good while, but the way I remember Servant's beliefs being written I've always registered it as something pretty curious
I like how despite being corrupted by despair, he sticks to his strong faith in the power of "Hope" (and is also the only one who sticks to hope at least a little as far as we know), although his perception of it is sort of twisted in a way? (Even if I personally can see where he's coming from)
I'm sure this whole argument has been said thousands of times before, but I just want to talk a little😭😭😭
His whole Idea in UDG is virtually the same as his ideals in SDR2, where he sees himself as a stepping stone for hope; where in UDG he already does see it that way, and yet acts kind of a lot different than in the other game?
In UDG: he says something about hope blooming only from the deepest pits of despair or something like that (i dont remember if he said it or not but also i think there was something either he said or i thought that wad along the lines of "if everything was hope hope hope and no despair ever happened, then hope would not exist"... i remember because thats become ingrained in my brain), believes a talentless person like Komaru can generate stronger hope than if someone already talented and "awesome" saved the world or whatever
In SDR2: he actively hates despair iirc, which also happens in UDG but, again, in a different font, has no faith in the wicked, and even bullies the fuck out of Hajime after he finds out he actually just doesnt have a talent (i believe he sourly regrets doing that and then waking up to discover Hajime saved everyone and became the ultimate hope LMAO)... although, its revealed that his subconscious hates the idea of despair, which I think is still pretty in character for his psyche since he is pretty unstable and ends up being a "forced" type of person? Does that make sense?
Although in my head I've wondered if SDR2 Komaeda just believed in Hajime because his talent was unknown and that could connect to UDG Komaeda believing Komaru could save everyone? As in, Komaru could end up being talented aswell... sort of that idea... i think that also kind of lines up with Komaeda's subconscious not liking the idea of "ultimate talents".
Maybe he believes his life wouldn't be as chaotic and uncertain if talents didnt exist? Because then everybody would be a normal person, despair and hope would interact naturally in "shades of grey" instead of "black and white" waging destructive war on eachother ykwim... Which ties back to his luck cycle since its, like, almost 1:1 on "fortune + misfortune":"hope + despair"
