Petition: Repeal the Online Safety Act

We want the Government to repeal the Online Safety act.

For anyone in the UK who might be going through disability discrimination bullshit at work like I am, there's a really important new precedent that was set by a case a few months ago.

Background: to be legally "disabled" for the purposes of equality/non-discrimination law in the UK, you have to "have a long-term condition" that "has a significant negative impact on your day-to-day life". Usually these are treated as two separate tests. It's possible a court could accept that you have a condition but conclude that it doesn't affect you enough to qualify.

BUT! In Stedman v Haven Leisure Ltd 2025 EAT 82, the Appeal Tribunal established the precedent that for mental health conditions specifically, a doctor's diagnosis satisfies both tests. That's because mental health conditions are usually only diagnosed in the first place if they have a significant negative impact on your life.

This is a big step in employment rights for anyone with a mental health condition. Six months ago, your employer could have argued "yeah, they have ADHD, but it's not a legal disability because it's not that serious, so they're not protected from discrimination", and you would have had to prove that your ADHD is, in fact, serious. Now, the burden of proof is in the other direction: if you have a diagnosis, your employer would have to actively prove that your condition isn't serious.

I noticed that an increasing number of posts from people and tags I follow were coming up completely blank or blocked. Like, I legit can't even look at some people's blogs anymore. Apparently this got snuck through with the latest Tumblr changes (in the UK, at least):

And, while I haven't encountered it myself, we've all heard about people being unable to access Steam gaming communities or watch videos on Spotify if any of it contains content 'the system' deems inappropriate. All to ‘protect the children’. Meanwhile, sexbots are allowed to carry on spamming their tits and asses all over dozens of unrelated tags, and psychotic bigots continue to harass and threaten people and communities they dislike. That's okay, but fanart isn't, talk about endometriosis isn't. Got it. Fuck your censorship, you incompetent wankers. Sincerely.

In case anyone was wondering what the UK's new Online Safety Act actually looks like, I got this page pop up when I was trying to look at a subreddit.

I cannot stress enough how much I am NOT uploading my fucking PHOTO ID to the INTERNET. Had my identity stolen once, thanks. Not in a rush to do it again...

UK people, and tbh everyone else should read this too. Just because it's happening "only here" doesn't mean you should ignore it and sit comfortably thinking it won't happen where you are, because it absolutely will. It's only a matter of time.

They're coming for Spotify next. If the censorship of "adult content" wasn't enough for you to be convinced that it's a mass censoring of the internet in order to control the people. Then this should be.

Handing over your ID willy nilly to sites and putting your trust into them to only use it once, then get rid of it is absolutely ludicrous. Do not give your IDs to these sites. Do not. The Tea app being breached and having women's faces leaked is proof these apps will not keep your personal information safe.

Keep being loud. Keep sharing information. Do not sit down and let them do this. They've already denied the petition that has 400k+ signatures.

This is never about the children. Pedophiles in this country don't get the punishments they deserve. The government doesn't care about it and turns a blind eye every time. This censorship is about control, not the children.
