The uni that I REALLY want to go to is known to have a lot of private school students, which is alright, but I've seen many people treat it as a bad thing? Why is that? I come from a state school, am I cooked? (Admission-wise everything seems fine for my specific course so the issue is not with that, but more about uni life)

But what I’m talking about above here is a real thing. It hurt so badly to realise that I can’t apply for an opportunity literally designed for people like me without potentially costing us any stability. Please share this around. I’m hoping James might be in work by the time this opportunity rolls around so that I can maybe take it if its offered to me.

UK census day: students

Today (21 March 2021) is census day in the UK; yo’ve probably heard about it already. It’s a legal requirement, the data is used by councils, charities and NGOs to allocate funding and resources, etc., etc.

This is just a reminder that students should fill out the census for their home address AND their term time address! You might need to request another access code for this – check out the census website for more info.

You should also check out the website if you have any other questions at all – they have advice on how to fill out the form separately to your household (e.g. if you’re LGBT+ and not out to your family), how to answer if you have no permanent address, how it works for people who live together but don’t know each other (e.g. in a flatshare/HMO), and a load of other stuff.

Get in touch with any mates you think might be affected by this to make sure they know!
