Next, Susanoo received Amaterasu's "eight-foot-long ball of five hundred beads" and chewed them, and from the mist of his breath that he blew out were born the following five male deities:

Amaterasu took the later-born male deities as her own children because they were born from her own things and declared that the earlier-born goddesses were Susanoo's children because they were born from Susanoo's things. Susanoo said that his children were the gentle goddesses because his heart was pure, and Amaterasu forgave him.

まず、天照御大神（あまてらす）が須佐之男命（すさのお）の持っている十拳剣（とつかのつるぎ）を受け取って噛み砕き、吹き出した息の霧から以下の三柱の女神（宗像三女神）が生まれた:

天照御大神（あまてらす）は、後に生まれた男神は自分の物から生まれたから自分の子として引き取り、先に生まれた女神は須佐之男命（すさのお）の物から生まれたから彼の子だと宣言した。須佐之男命（すさのお）は自分の心が潔白だから私の子は優しい女神だったといい、天照御大神（あまてらす）は彼を許した。
