Oh no–…!
Without thinking about it, the Captain shoved the little crustacean into his haori sleeve for concealment - and of course, the critter was still very much alive. It obviously didn’t take kindly to the dark, given that it slapped Ukitake’s wrist with its tail the second it was shoved into the sleev-y void. He ignored it, but just barely kept his expression collected.
“Hm? A lobster? Whatever are you talking about, Shinji-taichou? Your hair must be distorting your view a bit.”
Fwip-! The small shellfish disappeared into the sleeve of the other Captain so quickly that Shinji almost missed the action. His expression slowly turned deadpan.
“ Okay, that’s not a lobster, ” the blond drawled drolly. “ Ya totally did not just stuff a lobster into yer haori. ”
...Nevermind that the critter was still struggling very frantically in the billowing sleeve pocket of the other man, the material furiously flapping back and forth as the lobster flopped about wildly in Ukitake’s clothes.
“ ...By the way, are ya starvin’ for seafood or somethin’, Ukitake-taichou? ”

“Soifon-taichou, don’t partake in this!”
Casually pretends she doesn’t hear the man.

“Good morning, sunshine!” ^_^ [he’s going to win gin back into the gotei 13, watch him.]

“Haha -- I -- ah -- guess I got you pretty good there--” Kisuke’s nervous laughter trailed off.
He’d considered the various ways this could be received, yet -- and this was peak irony -- had overlooked what, in retrospect, he should have most expected: that he’d take the Captain’s breath away. But what was truly unexpected was the effect that reaction would have upon him. Hearing the sharp intake of breath, followed by a shuddering exhale, the vibration of a light shiver -- Kisuke wrestled to integrate an odd mixture of sympathetic regret with... perhaps it was the man’s congenial nature, but that tingling frisson was catching. If this was the reaction of Ukitake’s lungs in a moment of excitement -- He shook it off.
Note to self: next time, consider the implications of startling a man with a serious lung condition. Yet nevertheless, he forged on -- in for a penny, in for a pound, he supposed.
His grip loosened, the cloth coming away from the captain’s eyes, to be laid instead in his lap. “My latest invention,” he said modestly, stepping back respectably to allow the recipient to examine it. “I’ve dabbled a bit in imbuing cloth with kidō. This handkerchief is imbued with kaidō -- or at least, that’s my intention. --It’s a work in progress. In any case, I should hope that it’s enough to foreshorten, maybe even forestall, a coughing fit -- and for what it’s worth, it’s yours.”
He laid a gentle, rather guilty hand upon the captain’s shoulder. “I hope you’ll be able to breathe a bit easier now...” Not that his approach had helped with that.

Someone’s child was staring at him, and they were doing so without any form of parental figure nearby. At least from what Ukitake could tell from the moment he whipped around when he felt that he was being eyeballed. Needless to say, his jaw dropped with bewilderment.
“What on earth–? Young man, where are your parents?”
This was, of course, Ukitake’s top priority - finding the boy’s parents as soon as possible.
Busted! Golden eyes widened as he was spotted. Pulling the furry hat further in front of his face to cover his blotchy, diseased skin, Law darted behind the closest tree. Maybe if he hid then he wouldn’t get in trouble!
Where were his parents? The boy sniffled, having to fight back the tears just from thinking about it.
