Listen. A married man will be moved to give up everything he has including his family which is the only thing that even matters to him, for faith. For faith in a higher being and purpose. Because he was fed lies and groomed into doing it. Because the Cupids and the angels make sure to encourage that.
It's a core part of the horror. I don't mind other interpretations but let's not act like people being groomed to give up everything they have, especially their precious loved ones and freedom and autonomy, is not an extremely common horror in our lives. Religious trauma 101.
Why would being gay make Jimmy abandon himself and his family and endanger them too? That doesn't make any sense to me.
