Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman

Junk by Melvin Burgess - this was probably the first young adult book I read. I returned to it several years later and it was still really good

💘 Book Review: 💘 Misty Falls by @joss.stirling Rating: 4.5/5 stars Goodreads: 4.2 ⭐ Sticking with the YA genre that this series follows, Misty is Crystal's niece (from Seeking Crystal) who is 16 and meets Alex, her soul finder. Uriel, one of the Benedict brothers also finds his soul finder in this book but as he is in his mid 20s it was a side story. I'm guessing this will happen with Victor and Will in the next two books. Realising this I was wondering how I would find the book being from a 16 year old POV but it was definitely a book that I enjoyed. I loved how it was set mainly in Cambridge! I enjoyed how we got to see most of the past characters from the series in this book as well as meeting new ones. Misty and Alex's relationship was very interesting to follow and how their savant powers worked with each others was unique. Each book follows the same plot line which does make it a little predictable but they are different enough for me to still enjoy reading them. The only reason I didn't give it a five star was again the cheesy parts that made me cringe. It is another day for #ukyaspotlight and my pick is a book I personally never see anyone talk about. The Taste of Blue Light by @lydiaruffles follows Lux, an art student struggling with amnesia. Throughout the book she is determined to uncover what happened to her, whilst trying to deal with the fear of moving forward. I read this two years ago in the run up to YALC and was thoroughly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Some might think me a little mad for recommending a book about a pandemic, but today's pick of All Fall Down by Sally Nicholls for #ukyaspotlight is still a good read for anyone who is ready for it. Set in North Yorkshire at the time of the Black Death, it follows the struggle of young Isabel and her family as they try to protect themselves from this plague. It is tough but at the same time it evokes a lot of heart and strength, teaching us a lesson or two about our own pandemic. Alongside All Fall Down is Things A Bright Girl Can Do, following a couple of different characters in the fight for women's suffrage. Cripes. I'm a little late today with my #ukyaspotlight pick. Here’s A Skinful of Shadows by Frances Hardinge, one of the most creepiest and spectacularly addicting stories I've ever read. I devoured it in a couple of days and I'll always regret not packing it for my first ever YALC two years ago. Now I have to get on the bandwagon and read her backlist. Back at home after my normal Wednesday goings on and it is time for another #ukyaspotlight I'm diving deep into the world of witches for my pick, following Nathan who is being hunted by both White and Black witches, and learning everyday about magic he struggles to control. I really liked the Half Bad trilogy by Sally Green when it came out and I loved that, for once, it felt real that authors could live outside of London, even 30-45 minutes across the area from me!!
