✅ 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞! ✅ I can't tell you how long this series has been on my tbr! I remember getting a magazine with a snippet of Finding Sky in it years ago (maybe 10?) and was intrigued straight away! I read the first two ages ago and didn't continue. I decided in September to finish this series and I've finally done it! 🎉 If I'd read it at the time I got it I probably wouldn't have found the problems I have now I've read it as an adult. It's definitely outdated and problematic. Not something I'd recommend, especially to the age it is intended for. ☀️ 𝘽𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙍𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙚𝙬: ☀️ Summer Shadows by @joss.stirling Rating: 3.5/5 stars Goodreads: 4.38⭐ I finally finished this series! I was really looking forward to reading Summer and Victor's soul finder story and I did end up enjoying the book. Having said this I can't really ignore the major red flags this was giving me. Firstly, the sexism at the start of this book was mortifying, just like the last book, Angel Dares. Hal, Summer's soul finder, was very sexist when he first met Summer, and of course it was considered teasing because he liked her. Completely ridiculous. The other thing that I found problematic was when Summer, not knowing the names of some Asian characters, nicknames them Aladdin and Jafar (cultural appropriation) which really annoyed me. Also, a completely ignorance about Afghanistan overall. I did enjoy Summer's background story with her family and her powers as a savant were very unique. Hal's abilities where as unique and their abilities paired together were brilliant. I loved the plot line of this book and how it brought the series to a satisfying end. We got to see every character that was important in the ending and I really loved it! To see the savants working together was really fun. I feel like this series is a little outdated for me and sadly when it was released it probably wasn't seen as problematic. 🎻 Ｂｏｏｋ Ｒｅｖｉｅｗ : 🎸 Angel Dares by Joss Stirling Rating: 2.5/5 stars Goodreads: 4.16 ⭐ I thought I would try and finish a series before I start any others which is very tempting so I picked up the 5th book in the Benedict Savant series. The last book I rated 4.5 stars which in contrast is very different from this book. It was an easy read that I read in a few days so there must have been something good about the book. I enjoyed the relationship between Angel, Misty and Summer. That is where the positives end for me. The male characters in the book, which there are many, are all under the age of 30 and all incredibly sexist. Half the time I couldn't believe what I was reading. The women in the book are treated like property and at one point a male character said 'there isn't a no trespassing sign on her', literally describing her as another persons property. I really couldn't believe what I was reading. This book was written by a female author in 2015. 2015 isn't that long ago and this type of sexism really isn't acceptable. The love interest, Marcus, is the worst of them all. He continuously wants Angel to prove her worth to him and is a complete arse all the time. Angel would apologise for her 'behaviour' and it really made me feel sick. This book is intended for young readers and I can't imagine what an impact it could have on them. 💘 Book Review: 💘 Misty Falls by @joss.stirling Rating: 4.5/5 stars Goodreads: 4.2 ⭐ Sticking with the YA genre that this series follows, Misty is Crystal's niece (from Seeking Crystal) who is 16 and meets Alex, her soul finder. Uriel, one of the Benedict brothers also finds his soul finder in this book but as he is in his mid 20s it was a side story. I'm guessing this will happen with Victor and Will in the next two books. Realising this I was wondering how I would find the book being from a 16 year old POV but it was definitely a book that I enjoyed. I loved how it was set mainly in Cambridge! I enjoyed how we got to see most of the past characters from the series in this book as well as meeting new ones. Misty and Alex's relationship was very interesting to follow and how their savant powers worked with each others was unique. Each book follows the same plot line which does make it a little predictable but they are different enough for me to still enjoy reading them. The only reason I didn't give it a five star was again the cheesy parts that made me cringe. 💖 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰: 💖 Seeking Crystal by @joss.stirling Rating: 4.5/5 stars Goodreads: 4.3 ⭐ I've finally read the 3rd book! I read the first two about 7 years ago and never got around to the rest of the series, so I've finally decided to plough through and read this 6 book series. Crystal and Xav's story is my favourite so far. As each book goes on the characters get older so I feel like the characters were more mature at 19. It was a bit of a mix of two brothers finding their 'soulfinder' in this book which cleared up why there is only 6 books but 7 brothers. The message in this book was one that I appreciated. Crystal had real confidence issues and had low self esteem and this story followed her growth and it was lovely to see her confidence grow and for her to understand her own worth. Xav was always my favourite brother, even in the first two books because he had charisma and a great sense of humour so to see him find his soulfinder was really nice.
