(firstly if you don’t know what i’m talking about it’s called “De Brujos y Lobos” and you need to go read it like asap. I’m currently still working on it. And Jack hasn’t wolfed out yet so yeah. You can read that here). 

Honestly this is gonna be such a huge milestone for me I want to do more art and post more of my watercolor stuff anyways. I just... am having some difficulty getting sai to actually cooperate. (aka I suck at using this program and really need to learn how to use it ;n; )

Hello dearie! I was wondering if you had or could find any care sheets on Shell Dwelling Chilids, I have a 10 gallon tank that I just got and I was hoping I might be able to put some of the little ones in there! I know I could do a pair, but I was wondering if I might be able to get away with two pairs if I did strictly species only. Thanks! :D

I don't have a care sheet I've written myself but I do have one for N. multifsciatus on hand! You could not do two pairs in a 10, unfortunately. just the 1!

If it makes you feel better I helped a lady pick out a baby betta and gave her loooots of advice on tank size and feeding for said little guy and she actually listened and was glad for the help

Aw, excellent. :) Yeah, I helped a couple of girls with their betta a couple of weeks ago. It felt pretty good. I hope that betta is doing well.

Hey Joel!! :D I was wondering if you had a care sheet/crash course (Emphasis on the crash) or 101 on Crayfish care? My 38 gal. Tank is free (just in need of cleaning and redecorating) and I was thinking of a possible crustacean buddy

Sure! That is quite big for a single crayfish of the Procambarus genus (and don’t think it’ll work for multiples… that’s usually not a great idea!) but would be a little better for the Cherax genus.

Crayfish are extremely undemanding and really only need certain things to thrive. Filters are necessary, but in-tank ones are much better than HOB filters since any opening will allow for escape (definite escape artists). Heaters aren’t necessary for Procambarus but other crayfish may be tropical and will require them. Just do a little research once you find what you want.

Feeding a variety of foods, with emphasis on plant matter, is best. Trimmings from aquarium plants, peas, algae wafers, etc are all good staples. Once in a while, provide something meaty like unshelled shrimp or tilapia pieces for the calcium.

Iodide should be provided, at a rate of about 1 drop per 10 gallons per week. 4 drops/week would suffice for that size tank. You can get this stuff pretty cheap in the Marine section of any pet store.

That’s really about it! Having a way for the crayfish to exit the water when desired is beneficial, and I probably would avoid using plants (real or plastic) in the tank as they will be torn up and uprooted pretty quickly. Please no fish or other crustaceans for tankmates!

Conversely, instead of crayfish, you may want to look into Fiddler Crabs (Uca genus) if they are available locally. They are brackish, amphibious crabs that do well in decent sized groups. Food for thought!
