Wizards of the Coast made a surprise apology to all of their customers who were scorned in the much-maligned handling of the online sale on Hasbro’s website of the Guilds of Ravnica Mythic Edition boxes on October 3, 2018. Affected customers were sent a sneak-peek of the not-yet-announced Ultimate Masters set by way of a sealed booster pack containing one card and were also invited to share it on social network after receiving these packs in the mail on November 2, 2018. These packs contained one of forty foil cards from the new set with a borderless art treatment.
After an official announcement of the set on November 5, 2018 it was revealed that the set’s release date was merely weeks away on December 7, 2018. More of these Box Topper packs will become available at that time. They also revealed all forty of the cards within these packs as well as their regular release counterparts that will appear in packs of the upcoming set.
Ultimate Masters will only be available in English and Japanese, but so far I have not seen any reports of Japanese versions of these cards.
In an unusual turn, the secondary market has refused to venture a guess with these cards. No copies appeared in the usual secondary market channels, including eBay and no buylist price yet appeared on starcitygames.com during the first few days of this card making its surprise appearance.
