It's kinda funny how Shogo is treated as this incompetent punk who can't lead a gang properly by Jyunichi and Kazuo when you think about it.
Like, I get it. He engages in vices, has little to not combat ability, has no sense of honor or respect for tradition and is all in all, a cocky little shit who got his position because of his dad. He is everything the traditionalist Kazuo and "honorable" Jyunichi could hate in a person.
But Shogo managed to form an alliance with Dane Vogel and Ultor, securing the Ronin's place at the top gang in Stilwater. While the Sons of Samedi were busy peddling Loa Dust in the projects and at the college campus, and the Brotherhood was busy robbing stores and hijacking monster trucks in the Barrio and docks, the Ronin were rolling in money in Stilwater's richest neighborhoods and had the cops off their backs due to their connection to Ultor.
They had it all.
But then Kazuo shows up to "teach Shogo how to lead" after one too many setbacks from the Saints. And Kazuo completely fucks up everything.
He undoes the Ultor/Ronin alliance because of his arrogance, thus causing Dane to go to the Saints for the insult. His favoritism of Jyunichi and belittling of Shogo lead to Jyunichi getting killed. He was blindsided by the Saints forming and keeping alliances to people like Wong Sheng Tai who had a strong presence in Stilwater's criminal underworld. And then he expected the Boss to just let Kazuo kill them because they were disarmed.
Kazuo's arrogance and false belief that his status meant anything in Stilwater destroyed the Ronin's operations left, right and center. But sure, Shogo is the guy who couldn't lead.
