👑 ‘ The sheltered noble was too gentle-hearted, easily shaken, and painfully insistent on avoiding bloodshed whenever possible. When the brutal truth of the world beyond his gilded upbringing finally struck him, it did so with all the force of a collapsing building. Their first battle together, right outside the Emerald Grove, had ended with Sylverian throwing up and nearly fainting. Not exactly a heroic debut.
But time had passed. Battles had been fought. Their bond had deepened, and with it, Sylverian’s courage and resilience.
And yet, just when he began to believe he was as brave as the rest of them, the gods seemed to find amusement in proving him wrong by presenting him with another HORROR.
Like now.
❝Y-you… gods above——— Astarion, what have you done??❞ The words wrenched out of him, his breath came fast and shallow, trembling fingers pressed against his lips as if he could force down the nausea, the rising panic, the pure and utter dread coursing through him. It wasn’t just the brutality of it all. Sadly, they had encountered numerous mangled corpses before. What truly turned his stomach was Astarion’s joy. Knowing HE had done this. Seeing him so utterly at ease with the slaughter.
I'm not sorry at all.
Sylverian stepped back, shaking his head in a desperate refusal of the scene before him. He was afraid, unable to tear his gaze away from the bloodied corpse ; he didn’t dare look Astarion in the eye.
❝I-I told myself that I understood, t-that I could trust you... I chose to trust you! But this—— this is carnage! And you— .... you...❞ His voice broke, tears welled up. He wanted to RUN, but he felt like his legs might give out.
He wondered if Astarion could smell his fear. He wondered if he would be next...
I’m currently re-reading Stargate Atlantis books, the Legacy series. And I’m currently on book seven and came across this bit in the book. And now I need answers. HAS HE BEEN PROMOTED….AND WHEN.
If he has, then he’d be a Lt. Col. And if so, would that mean John is still also a Lt. Col or has he been promoted to full bird Colonel in between book 6 and 7.
I hope this is not a typo. Because he definitely deserves to have been promoted.

The tadpoles seemed to be having no great effect on the ones around him, at least not on their behavior. They'd mentioned--and he'd talked to Gale at length about it--how this group was now mentally connected, as if by spell, to each other. They'd caught and put in a jar one of the tadpoles they'd come across, Dorian having studied it in much of his down time. It seemed interested in him, mostly due to him being a warm, living body, he was sure, but occasionally it'd perk more towards one of the other party members.
But aside from observing it's behavior, there wasn't much he could glean from it. A twist of magic here, a prod there, nothing really seemed to give him further insight. Even reading over Halsin's extensive notes hadn't enlightened him further. For a druid, he had the inquisitive mind of a wizard--
Astarion's voice cut through Dorian's train of thought. He'd apparently been staring at him while wrapped up in his tadpole-related thoughts.
"I've been told I have naturally upturned lips." Dorian put his chin in his hand, looking over at Astarion. "Why? Admiring them?"
@unascended sent 📚 for Lucanis 👀
ㅤㅤㅤ"... A murderer not only kills a person, he kills their home."
ㅤㅤㅤLucanis's tone is flat, the usual softness that rounds out his vowels pressed to a hardened edge. He sounds as sharp as the daggers in his belt.
ㅤㅤㅤIt could be blamed, perhaps, on the ever-stretching shadow Spite casts against the Talon's back. But Lucanis's eyes remain clear. And they are looking at Astarion.
Okay, I read Unascended and mostly liked it even without reading the earlier Legacy books. HOWEVER, I am grumpy at its sequel Third Path. In Unascended, there seems to be some build up to a Carson & Elizabeth reunion: one of her earliest returned memories is his memorial service, Carson is open to the possibility of Elizabeth being alive, and Elizabeth briefly panics that the whole situation is a mind game when the others refer to Carson in the present tense.
But then there’s no reunion in Third Path?! In Elizabeth’s return to Atlantis Lorne greets her and there is an admittedly cute callback to “Rising” with Jack sending another bottle through. But there’s no mention of Carson and they aren’t shown on-page together.
Don’t me get me wrong, Radek & Elizabeth getting a moment to reconnect at the book’s end was sweet. But it strikes me as unfair to not see their reunion, especially as technically the core team had ‘reunited’ with Elizabeth in the show. Carson wasn’t in those episodes, and I really wanted to see that reunion.
There was plenty in Third Path that I liked, but there are also some serious hiccups. The lack of a scene between Carson & Elizabeth definitely upset me the most, though. The implied hanging out doesn’t do it for me. I like their friendship in the first 3 seasons and I feel robbed of getting to see their mutual joy of getting a friend back from the dead. >:(
I might end up writing it myself if the tie-in novels won’t do it.
... I am 100% cherry-picking which novel elements I’m going to view as my SGA canon and I regret nothing.
More seriously, I’m willing to hear about other Stargate novels I should read.
I’ve also read Pride of the Genii, Transitions, Death Game, Kali’s Wrath, Permafrost, and the Rising novelization.
Any books that feature Carson, Rodney, Daniel, Janet, Vala, or Elizabeth would be particularly nice, but honestly I love just about everybody. Though Permafrost was a little outside my comfort zone due to the horror tropes, to give you guys a sense of what a scaredy cat I can be.
he’s finally learned not to touch things
