Serum Institute’s lawsuit against trial volunteer uncalled for; transparent approach needed, say experts
Even in the most well-developed drug or vaccines, where the odds of an adverse event may be slim, the redressal process for issues raised by volunteers is tricky The Serum Institute of India hit the headlines for the wrong reasons earlier this week — a lawsuit of Rs 100 crore that it filed against a volunteer who flagged a serious medical condition. The legal faceoff has brought to light the…

uncalled for
digging to bite
the even and so slight
pause along
and chase as the soul
words that mentally slap
and a rewind of a movie
in the mind
all gone wrong
the side of the curb
and scatter
and held in disbelief
what it knew
and something it foretold
measure and castles
were building
and basking
double as the eyes
and signature and point
return and heard

PAS tells Jeff Ooi his remarks are uncalled for
GEORGE TOWN, MARCH 19, 2015:
Jelutong Member of Parliament Jeff Ooi has been described by Penang Pas as being ungrateful for asking DAP to end all relations with PAS for tabling and passing the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Code II Enactment 1993 (2015).
Penang PAS deputy II commissioner Datuk Mohd Salleh Man said he was not surprised with Ooi’s statement as it was well known that DAP had been opposing hudud for a long time.
He criticised Ooi for his uncalled for remark which he described as hasty, without taking into consideration the collaboration formed between the two parties in the state for the past 10 years.
“I don’t understand why he is linking a Kelantan matter with Penang and in my opinion, his action has gone overboard,” Mohd Salleh said when contacted by The Rakyat Post here today.
Yesterday, Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob tabled the bill during the state assembly sitting which is a modification of the Kelantan Shariah Criminal Code II Enactment 1993, applicable only to Muslims.
Following that, Ooi had earlier today /urged the state government to immediately suspend all forms of cooperation and collaboration with the Islamist party in state and local governments, village security and development committees as well as with field officers and “burn the bridge” with PAS.
He was also reported as having told a press conference that DAP had been betrayed and stabbed in the back.
Mohd Salleh, however, said Ooi’s statement would be studied from all angles as it was a big issue.
The Permatang Pasir state assemblyman also went on to say that the success of DAP in wresting the state from Barisan Nasional in 2008 was not solely due to the strength of DAP but also with the help of PAS.
“All this while Pas has done nothing but to help DAP in heading towards success and that is something that should be acknowledged by DAP.”
Mohd Salleh, however, passed the buck to State Pas commissioner Mohamad Sabu when he stated that the latter was more in a position to voice PAS’s formal stand on the issue.
