stormlight characters' response to being asked "did the chicken or the egg come first?"
gavilar - "this is nonsense. neither came first because they both come from each other. there is no "beginning" here."
dalinar - "their lives are a circle, the chicken lays the egg which hatches the chicken. they both come first, because they are the same."
navani - "it must be the egg, because all chickens are from eggs, so there never was a chicken not starting from an egg."
evi - "the chicken because she lays the egg and grows it ^-^"
jasnah - "if you follow the lineage of the species of chicken that we eat today back to its source, back to its last common ancestor where it split off and became an actual chicken, you'd see that there was at one point a non chicken that layed a chicken egg, so that egg hatched the first actual chicken. thus, the egg came first."
elhokar - "oh wow." [thinking face] "i don't know, that's a weird question."
adolin - "... the chicken, i think? it does lay all eggs, so it must have come first."
renarin - "the egg."
aesudan - "who gives a shit."
shallan - "well, if you look back into the history of the species, it wouldn't be possible for the first chicken to have hatched without being an egg, so the egg."
kaladin - "i... don't know? I mean chickens come from eggs, but those eggs also came from chickens so... they both just come from each other."
gavinor - "what's an egg? do you have a chicken here?" [you show him a chicken] "can i pet it? it's body is so soft! what is that stuff covering it? 'feathers'? wow!!!"
this one goes out to dalinar for taking a mass of men with unknown loyalties and at large no guarding experience and making them the royal guard, replacing the old guard who had years of trust built up, then one of those men with unknown allegiances nearly successfully assassinating the king within literally the first 3 weeks
this is from a couple months ago but it's still my favorite news reel i've gotten
ive said it before and i'll say it again but it is INCREDIBLE that like the ONE person with a death wish against elhokar for 'you killed my family' reasons ended up in his guard while precisely ZERO of those kinds of people for dalinar ended up in that guard. like elhokar killed like 2 people and it wasnt even directly he sent them to jail until they died. meanwhile dalinar is over here killing people alllll over alethkar and herdaz and even jah kaved and shit personally ripping their guts out both combatant and civilian and youre telling me not a single person who was affected by that got on that crew? wacky zany crazy
maybe elhokar was right to be paranoid in wor. dalinar really hired a boatload of people with unknown allegiances which happened to include mr Killing Elhokar Is My Life Goal with not even rudimentary background checks and also put a guy with no bodyguarding experience in charge of protecting all of the royal family*. and this actually bit them in the ass as early as wor 22/23 when elhokar almost died directly because of that. these guys' security really is kind of abysmal circa early wor through no fault of kaladins who may i say again had 0 bodyguarding experience and was learning everything on the fly
*this WAS due to pressure from elhokar himself. to be clear i'm saying this as my own analysis of the situation and not to say elhokar was unequivocally right in how he was afraid
Highprince Kholin's paternal instincts are "very odd", insider sources say
@blackthornass is this what you wanted
