1967 East Village Other Newspaper - Halloween by Vinnie DeVille Via Flickr: Vintage October 15, 1967 issue of the underground counter culture newspaper, The East Village Other, featuring a cover dedicated to Halloween. This paper, along with Rat Subterranean News, was pretty popular in the New York City Area high schools and colleges back in the day. By 1972 most of these types of publications ran out of gas and ceased to exist. It’s always a thrill when it’s from Vinnie DeVille!

One of the many zines published in the ‘70s by the Kerista Commune in Haight-Ashbury. Kerista is probably most often remembered today for popularizing (and codifying) polyamory (or “polyfidelity”). But they also ran a large Apple computer service business called Abacus that employed more than 250 people at one point.
