•Part 3 of the Underhammer theory
•Sartosa, the location of the underground
Yes, I am redoing the underground’s location. Dark lands was honestly a swing and a miss and looking back it makes no sense geographically.
Sartosa is my favorite location in all of Warhammer. A warm Mediterranean pirate republic island right under the nose of Tilea. Here I’ll be using evidence that this place is Sartosa in the distant future, over 201X years after the end times fail. It’s rarely mentioned in discussion outside of the lore of Undertale but it seems the underground is near the ocean relatively speaking.
•Evidence we see underground
First, we see the pirate flag that Papyrus mentions that it was found in the bay. Its the weathered generic skull and crossbones, which can imply a pirate presence in that area in the past.
Our second is when we meet Onionsan in waterfall. Obviously represents a stylized version of krakens and giant tentacled beasts. Sartosa’s nearby waters have a type of kraken that live within that area. And with the sea caves of the island, it’s no surprise one of which may have ended up there.
Next evidence is the pacifist run ending, where in the ending, we see Frisk and the others looking at the surface, and in the distance what possibly could be the sea. When Alphys and Undyne are dating, the location is at the beach.
•Surface evidence
The mountain Frisk falls into in is Mt Ebott. Geographically if you look at the map of Sartosa, Mount Ertinia lines up pretty accurately with where the top of Mt Ebott stands. On top of that the view we get shows a city off in the distance and a mountain next to it.
Mount Ertinia is a volcano which is mostly dormant from what we see of it. Same with Mt Ebott which isn’t erupting but still has lava beneath from what we see in Hotland. I’m thinking over time the name of it could’ve changed.
The underground obviously has more than one entrance and exits. Just like sartosa which is full of caves and caverns.
•Architectural evidence
Long before the events of Undertale, long before the events of the End Times, and long before the Empire of Man’s founding we had another empire on the old world. The Reman empire it started in Tilea but spread through the entire continent. The pillars in the ruins look similar to the types of ruins we see around Sartosa and Tilea. Makes sense since Tilea was close to the pirate republic.
Lastly, there was a large Skaven population that used to live on that island, with its own separated Under-Empire known as “Under Sartosa” a large cavern where they had a presence. Here is an example of Skaven architecture that we can see in this image of Skavenblight. Believe it or not this is underground.
Bonus round, papyrus makes spaghetti which is a dish served in Tilea. Pasta is canon to warhammer fantasy.
Thank you very much if you’ve made it through this theory. Idk what I’ll do next.
In the underground, in undertale! :3
