UNDERHATE
an au made by @cheto-png and @w0rldsabove !
What is Underhate? -- Underhate is an UNDERTALE au where a sickly, thick black goop infects the underground. This goop is referred to as "HATE", and has deeply engraved itself into nearly every monster in the underground by the time our lovely protagonist, Frisk, had fallen. The goop isn't just some disgusting little parasite that drains monsters of their physical energy, it also makes them intensely violent and aggressive! Monsters will often attack eachother over the littlest of things. Barfights, domestic fights, fights over land… anything is possible at this point. Their king, ASGORE, has the worst of it -- he has targeted all of his hate onto humanity, and personally believes that they need to claim 7 human souls to break the barrier and infect the rest of humanity with HATE. The Uninfected -- Although many monsters were unable to fight off the hate from infecting both their minds and bodies, there was a select few who isolated quick enough to not be infected (Ruin monsters, including Toriel) or those who have some sort of immunity, due to either physical attributes (Grillby) or other, unknown reasons (Sans). Most of the uninfected desire for freedom as well, although they don't believe the solution is to break the barrier. If they do that, infected monsters will ravage the surface and destroy anything in their path. So, a rebellion was formed, and they began to discuss other options.
The Rebellion -- Although they believed destroying the barrier was out of the question, the rebellion is still highly violent against humans. The rebellion believes that if they manage to get 7 human souls, the LIGHT the souls give off will be able to cure the hate. This theory has never been tested, as only uninfected human souls are able to be used , and Asgore has been able to catch the human souls before the rebellion in most cases. Human infection -- Although there has only been one or two cases of human infection, as human souls becoming infected will prevent them from being able to open the barrier, there is a lot known about human infection. First-- humans possess a different kind of violent rage. They aren't often physical, their rage is much more emotional. It's more likely to kill the human, especially if the hate drips into their soul. If a human's SOUL is determined enough, however, the human will remain alive. This is not a blessing. This is incredibly painful, and death would be mercy. The mixture of HATE and DETERMINATION is enough to make a human both immune and victim to the hate. It's an endless loop of pain, with no known cure. Royal Guard -- The royal guard's intention is not to ensure peace. This time, it's to make sure every single monster is infected -- and there's no fools running around trying to create havoc that would go against the hate. Their main enemy is the rebellion, but as of right now they're fully unaware of the rebellion's existence -- when there's a human sighting that suddenly goes missing, they assume that a more... lost.. monster killed them without thinking. There are frequent broadcasts to remind hate-infected monsters that they are not to kill any fallen humans, and instead bring them right to the capitol. Undyne, the captain of the royal guard, is often much more violent, and that's what insured her position. They work closely with the royal scientist, who specializes in devices similar to a breathalyzer that tells you how much hate is in a person's body. Papyrus still wants to be apart of the royal guard, but... Sans doesn't seem to trust Undyne too much -- who knows why? Fashion -- Yes, they honestly look much edgier now. It's pretty cringe, and those who are immune and are trying to NOT DIE by pretending to be infected... well . they feel pretty lame. The evolution of fashion changed due to the hate's dislike of color, and so most monsters now wear blacks, grays, and some red -- the hate likes red, mostly because it looks like blood. keep going for underhate yellow...!
