HOT TAKE: The only versions of Jesus Christ Superstar that are valid are the ones who sent Judas to heaven. The fact that he goes to hell in so many adaptations is insane to me. Like,,,, did you not get the message?
so they really just made a movie out of halsey’s the tradition?
Clipse - Lord Willin' A lot of yall could probably tell the difference between "West Coast" hip hop and "East Coast" hip hop. Even less of you could probably tell me what the dirty south is and what style of Hip Hop came from the South East United States. Even even incredibly even less could tell me what the fucking Virginia sound was or is. Some of y'all probably don't even know that Pharrell was a hip hop producer in the 2000's and that he was one of the more innovative and influential producers of the 21st century and a huge chunk of what he did, what he wrote, and produced in his early carer was for Clipse. They are THE Virginia group. They are fucking amazing. Pusha T and No Malice just absolutely losing their mind over some of the most out there and interesting production that was going on at the same time. This shit is just so God damn bouncey and melodic for a hardcore hip hop record about selling coke and hustling. There's just nothing quite like listening to Pusha T tell you about how he grew up hustling and doing everything he could to be a success over the top of these Jazzy ass saxaphones and horns that almost sound like something from a Benny Goodman song. This whole album goes so hard, and when I was a kid these guys were the only people from VA we could point to as showing how shit could be there. I was only there a few years, but these fuckers stuck with me. Absolutely insane to see Pusha T go from local legend to one of the all time greats. It is well past time for all of yall to learn about this scene and listen to these albums. This or Hell Hath No Fury are absolutely the best place to start.
Were they, you know, born to make history?
LFO - Summer Girls
El Dorado is one of my favorite animated movies of all time and it’s so underrated. Also, I really love this scene because I did not get it when I was a child 😶
Also, Nick joins the genderbend scene. She was a bit tough (´。_。’)
The Queen of Spades (1949)
Anton Walbrook is on peerlessly maniacal form as the obsessive gambler dying to know the secret of an elderly countess (Edith Evans), who has sold her soul to win at cards. An underseen treasure from the perpetually-underrated British master Thorold Dickinson, for my money this doesn’t quite match the claustrophobic perfection of his 1940 Gaslight, but it’s the next best thing. - Tim Robey. The Telegraph (2009)
Rotten Tomatoes reported that 95% of critics have given the film a positive review based on 21 reviews, with an average rating of 8.09/10. Wes Anderson ranked it as the sixth best British film. Martin Scorsese has described Thorold Dickinson as an underrated director, saying of The Queen of Spades that "this stunning film is one of the few true classics of supernatural cinema."
