Colored Silk Wedding Dresses of the 1860s-1880s

According to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, “the fashion for white wedding gowns originated only in the late 19th century and was not commonplace until the 20th century.” In wearing colored gowns, the wedding dresses could then be reworn to other events.
