#MeToo. If all women who have been sexually harassed or assaulted wrote "Me too" as a status, we might give people a sense of the magnitude of the problem.

#SAAM #UniteAgainstRape The UK explained sexual consent in the most British way possible.
I was sexually assaulted in college and kept quiet until I had daughters to protect. Christine Blasey Ford's long silence on Brett Kavanaugh
#BelieveSurvivors "The Rape Abuse and Incest National Network reports that 1 in 4 of female students ages 18-24 experience rape or sexual assault, but that only 20 percent of them report it.
According to the Justice Department, girls ages 14 to 17 experience the highest rate of sexual assault among all groups: close to 11 percent. For all children under 18, only about 13 percent of sexual assaults are reported to police.
Ford’s silence is the norm, not the exception, and has nothing to do with her veracity."

"I was told point-blank that my career was moving slowly because “nobody wants to fuck you.” There was something about me, sexually, that wasn’t selling...that whatever I might contribute to a role through talent would be instantly marginalized by my physical appearance. I learned that my success would be dependent on what the men in charge thought about my face and my body. Everything I had learned back home had to go out the window as I adapted to these new requirements: what I looked like was paramount." #UniteAgainstRape #SexualHarassment #MeToo #TimesUp
#SexualAssaultAwarenessMonth - Title X We have a problem with how we define rape. There isn’t a universal definition of rape. Brock Turner was found guilty of three felony counts of sexual assault. Under California law, Turner is not technically a rapist because he didn’t penetrate his victim with his penis. Instead, prosecutors could only charge him with sexual assault — a lesser charge because he penetrated her with a foreign object, his finger... — http://ow.ly/z06m30jBssZ
"For survivors of sexual violence, it can be particularly excruciating. As a trauma therapist in New York City, every day I sit with individuals who grapple with the shame, silencing, and isolation that comes from having suffered the subjugation of #SexualAssault or #rape. Neurobiologically sensitive to any kind of sensory or emotional stimuli, for these individuals the daily churning headlines can be triggering to the point of panic inducing." #UniteAgainstRape #MeToo
Thank you Toni Morrison for standing with us against victim blaming. "Rape is a criminal act whatever the circumstances. A woman riding the subway nude may be guilty of indecency, but she may not be raped. If she invites or even sells sex at 10:00 and refuses it at 10:45, the partner who disregards her refusal and forces sex is guilty of rape. If she is drunk, asleep, mentally defective, paralyzed or dead, she must not be raped. Why? Because sexual congress must be by consent." - Toni Morrison, author & activist Please share! #UniteAgainstRape
"For years, public safety professionals and advocates have known that the majority of sexual assaults are never reported and, therefore, fail to be represented in the national crime statistics database. Using Department of Justice surveys and statistics, the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAIIN) estimates that only 344 out of 1,000 sexual assaults are actually reported to law enforcement. This translates into approximately 2 out of 3 sexual assaults never being reported to authorities." #UniteAgainstRape #rape #SexualAssault #RapeKits #MeToo [The title of this piece had me yelling that no evidence should go untested. Period. End of sentence.]
