I truly think journalling can have a crucial role in student life. It's an outlet and a record of your life, it helps you destress, sleep better, self reflect and learn every day.

A Study Routine With a Study Buddy Online
Some of you might have gotten on zoom calls or other platforms with people to do quiet work together and that has been a game-changer for me personally. Especially when I feel very unmotivated.
Having a study routine with a study buddy/buddies can be really helpful if you want to be held accountable for how you spend your day. These can be great to make routines for exercise, meals and self-care too! The pandemic and lockdowns haven't made school easy so don't beat yourself up if you mess up. Just keep trying!
Something that my counsellor told me that is still relevant is that sometimes you’re not going to have the time to cover all of your material or complete everything that is required to do within your studies and assignments.
Whether it’s completing certain amount of readings or note taking or studying, each person has a unique circumstance and the education system doesn’t personalize the work for you. A person who is struggling with a mental illness, a person who is currently supporting someone else in need, a person who feels burn out easily or a person who takes longer to absorb the material; they all will get the same degree of workload from someone who doesn’t understand what each individual goes through out side of their academic life. Sometime even if there is nothing wrong, the unrealistic expectation to be working 24/7 or that you can finish so much work is not possible.
And that’s okay. You’re human and you’re going through life your own way. It’s okay that you couldn’t finish everything and it is not the end of the world. It doesn’t make you less capable or less intelligent.
We move on.
If you're finding it hard to establish a routine yet because you've always taken a long time to get used to change and you're comparing yourself with others who seemed to have their shit together and you're wondering why you haven't been like them, I see you and I'm sending you lots of love cause I get it's not easy for everyone and I want you take your time because you'll get where you want to be.
The time change has been a bit rough on me and my productivity. And the weather has definitely made things more “cuddle and nap” friendly.
Yesterday I prepped for today’s meeting with my supervisor. It also got me thinking that I should definitely keep a list of things I’m achieving through out my degree and outside of my degree. So far I’ve had the pleasure of collecting and analyzing physiological data, running study visits, reviewing a manuscript, writing a secondary data analysis and so on. And outside of school, I’m volunteering at the Student Wellness Centre, running a science communication group and handling the social media, tutoring and being a free-lance artist.
What's an academic new year resolution that you have for 2021 and a non-academic resolution?
Mine is breaking big tasks into small achievable ones and self compassion!
Btw!!! If you feel like you don't have a pre-requisite for a course or a program but you have related experience, please please email the program coordinator/academic advisor/professor to see if they can still waive you in!! Sometimes you can access certain opportunities even tho they appear to be not for you, all you have to do is ask!!
